You probably have seen a lot of Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. You may not like any of those, but you probably will like some of those film scores. Many talented composers have worked on his recent movies, like Randy Edelman, Graeme Revell, Mark Isham and John Debney. However, in his early career, his films could only get scores from low budget composers like Paul Hertzog. Honestly, I have never heard of this guy before. According to IMDb, he has done only a few scores other than this one. Nonetheless, his score to Bloodsport does impress me. When I saw the movie, I did not really pay attention to the music. But in one fight scene, the music really caught my attention. So I decided to get this soundtrack. You can hear the score is really really low budget. Everything is done on a symthesizer, so the score is heavily electronic. However, the score is extremely effective and catchy. The best of all, the score is not too soft or too loud and is constantly moving with thematic materials. The scores from the fight scenes are heavy beat music with a sense of great urgency. Since the film is filmed in Hong Kong, he has to compose some exotic cues for a few scenes, which he has done a good job also. It also has two songs written by the composer. If you like action scores, this is a nice one to have. | |
