Crimson Tide

After hearing all those excellent reputations about this score, I am a little disappointed. There is no doubt that this score is a career highlight of Zimmer. This score sort of sets the new tone of what action-drama movie music should sound like (Use of synth and choir). The main theme that he composed has been used in many trailers and TV programs, sports programs especially. I personally like those larger than life themes and motifs a lot. And this one is certainly one of the best. The first track "Mutiny" and the last track "Roll Tide" are absolutely enjoyable and marvelous. However, the longer tracks, "Alabama" (24 mins) and "1SQ" (18 mins) just never click me on. One thing that I like about Zimmer' scores is that his scores are very rhythmic and thematic. The two longer tracks are, however, lack of real substance. They are bunch of dark, low synth sounds with occasional thematic stuffs, which will catch my attention once in a long while. Call me crazy, but I recommend "The Rock" over this one. This score is certainly good to have in your shelf. But if you want a more enjoyable Zimmer score, there are better ones.
