This score realy caught my attention when I heard a clip of the "Opening Title Theme" from a site. Australian composer Peter Best, also composer of Muriel's Wedding, is not a well known to us. Other than Crocodile Dundee, only a few other of his scores are available to us. The "Opening Title Theme" starts off with an traditional Australian instruments (the one that makes humming sound), which is also used in various track. Quickly then you hear some dum dum timpani sound as if a hero is about to appear. Then a very catchy guitar motif appears. It is fast paced and a little bouncy, definitely one of favorite theme. The rest of the score reminds me of Danny Elfman's "Midnight Run" a lot. It is a light, jazzy, electronic score with orchestral accompaniment sometimes. "The Walkabout Bounce" use saxophone as a main instrument, while "In The Truck" used guitar. They all have "comical" motifs but they took me a few listen before I get into them. Ironically, I don't find the longest track, "Theme From Crocodile Dundee," as enjoyable as other short tracks. If you like electronic based urban drama score of the 80s or Danny Elfman's "Midnight Run," you may want to give this score a listen. | |
