Before I got this score, I have heard good things about it. This terrific score does live up to its reputations. Trevor Jones composed a very haunting and powerful score for this Gothic film. The darkness of the score reminds me of Wojciech Kilar's score to Bram Stoker's Dracula. "Into The City" starts with low voice male chorus chanting which sets the mood very well. Soon, a catchy and boombastic motif comes in. It is played over a very nice electronic rhythm. It is so good that it will definitely get you heart pumping. "No More Mr. Quick" is very similar to the previous track except it has a faster version of the motif mentioned. "The Strangers Are Turning" is another great track. It introduces another execellent bombastic theme. This time, however, is played over the famous rhythm of "Mars" (from the classical music Holst's The Planets). "Emma" and "Memories Of Shell Beach" are the only soft tracks. Both have a sad but yet beautiful melodies. You can definitely feel the sorrow and tragedy in the melodies. The last track "You have the Power" summarizes all of the themes once again. This score has a lot of kick butt action moments that I have not heard in a while. WARNING: They will knock you socks off. If you like a bombastic and rousing dark score, there is no reason that you don't like it. | |
