Composer: Mark Isham
Lable (Release Year): Sony Classical (1998) Availability: **** Rating: ***
A very relaxing and charming small orchestral score by Isham. The score is some what similar to his music to A River Runs Through It except it is not as rich in melody. The music texture resembles the style of Thomas Newman. It sounds very much like Newman's How To Make An American Quilt and Oscar and Lucinda. The musical instruments mentioned next to the track listing are basically the ones that you will hear in the score. Therefore, it does not have Isham's instrument - trumpet. It does have a theme but it is not very dominant and could easily be forgotten. The score is so consistent that one track sounds just like another. There is no doubt that the score is very charming but its lack of thematic materials makes it less enjoyable. If you want a good relaxing orchestral score of Isham, get A River Runs Through It. Or if you just want some similar scores, get some of Thomas Newman's music. Nonetheless, the is a score that an Isham fan should own.
