The Frighteners

Composer: Danny Elfman
Label (Release Year): MCA Records (1996)
Availability: ****
Rating: **

I am sorry but this is the least enjoyable Elfman' score I have heard. Also, a very unusual thing happens in this score. Elfman is very famous in composing catchy themes. However, this score has NO theme. I don't think Elfman has ever composed a score that has no theme. (At least among all of the Elfman scores that I own.) After hearing the CD four or five times, I still don't remember a particular cue from the score. This style of the score resembles some of his earlier works, like Nightbreed, Darkman, and Batman Returns. This score will give you no excitement. This is a truly disappointing score from him. Nonetheless, I still give still give it a two star beacuse, at least, it will not put you to sleep. I would like to say more, but there is really nothing left to say.
