Composer: Anne Dudley
Lable (Release Year): Academy Promo Availability: * Rating: CD is too short
I still remember that I was very angry when I saw Anne Dudley, instead of Danny Elfman, recieveing the Academy Award. Elfman's score to Men In Black apparently got the most applause when it was played during the ceremony. Men In Black is not a great score but certainly deserves the award more than The Full Monty. The theme of the Full Monty is no doubt very catchy and enjoyable. It is jazzy and has an upbeat melody played by saxophone. If you have seen the movie, you will definitely remember it. The "rest" of the tracks are more or less in the same style. As I recall, most of the scores of the film are just the variations of the theme. The playing time of this promo address some issues that I am concern of. How hard is that for a professional film composer to creat a score that has 10 minutes of good moment? May be Mr. Elfman would have gotten the Award if only his main theme and end title were sent to the committee members. How can one judge a score with just 10 minutes of it? I am sure you that you can find 10 minutes of good music in many of your "not so good" soundtracks. Anyway, my point is that I enjoy the 10 minutes but it is not long enough to reflect the quality of the entire score. Of course, there "might be" other external factors that made the Award lied in Dudley's hands. Such as: "they felt that they MUST give the movie SOME sort of Award. Since the general public and the professionals do not really care about the scoring awards, giving one to the Full Monty does not seem that it would upset many people." Of course, that is just my opinion. Anyway, this promo does not have a high value. You should be able to obtain it from the internet for less than $20. Also, if I am not mistaken, you can find all five tracks in the two commercial sountrack releases.
