The debut motion picture score for the less known composer Kevin Kiner. He is still not very active in scoring motion picture since the debut. He has been scoring some TV series. His current project is "Wing Commander" the movie (some of you may know that the movie is based on a very popular space simulation computer game series). Maybe because it is his debut, Kiner composed an exceptional score for this low budget horror flick. The theme for the Leprechaun is very playful and extremely catchy. Although it does not have an Irish melody, playing it with piccolo over a waltz like tempo makes it exotic. Another tune that you want to whistle along with all the time. He also composed a theme for Ozzie and Alex. It is like a friendship theme which is very decent also. To my surprise, the score is much more orchestral than I thought. The score has a lot of bombastic, tongue in cheek action cues, for example, "Endless Chase", "Hospital Chase", and "Clover's End". The combination of orchestra and synthesizer makes the sound very rich. By the way, the synthesizer parts sound like Chritopher Franke. Also, the score does not lack of beautiful gentle moments. When you start to lose your attention to the score, something always happens and draws you back. A score that is well deserved our attention. | |
