A great symphonic score performed by the Grauke Orchestra of Munich. The main theme is certainly a reminiscent of Williams' Superman Main Theme. The high trumpet notes at the beginning sound a lot like the ones used in the Superman main theme (not the intro part.) Although they have the same sound quality, I think they have different flavors. It's certainly one of my favorite themes of all time. A few minutes after the main theme, you will hear the famous Mars' rhythm of Holst's Planet. Of course, they temp tracked the movie with the Planet. Other then the main theme, there are a few other themes too. If have seen the movie, you may remember the five music notes (CGGFG in the key of C) that control the portal(?) device. The five notes is a reminicent of Williams' classic five notes from Close Enconter of the Third Kind. Of course, it is no match with it. Another theme is built around with those five notes. It is subtle, I slipped through it the first time I listen the CD. Many action cues are well composed. The "gentle variation" of main theme is excellent too. This is certainly one of the best works of Conti. Get it if have chance, especially the expended release.
