The Rambo series is definitely a highlight in Goldsmith's career. (In Sly's career also since he created the cult figure Rambo.) All three scores are thematically strong. Unlike the first movie, this movie is a plain action movie rather than a drama action movie. Therefore, this score is heavily action packed and it has very little room for you to breath. The score is probably Goldsmith's action score at his best. With constantly blasting brass sounds, and druming percussion, the score is very bombastic. The excellent performance of The National Philharmonic raise the quality of this score to a perfection. Also, synthesizer plays a major role in this score. Its sounds merge very well with the orchestra which makes the action cues more effective, especially for those "sneaking" scenes. Other than the main theme from the first movie, Goldsmith had also composed a new heroic theme. It is as excellent as the old theme. This thematically strong score will surely keep you ears busy. For those who likes action scores, there is no excuse to miss this one. | |
