Although I own twenty something of Goldsmith scores, I don't think I have heard 50% of him yet. Sometimes Goldsmith's drama score may sound a little like his vintage action scores, like Basic Instinct and Forever Young. But the music texture of this score sounds quite different from most of his works. His score to this football film is thematicaly strong and beautiful. There are two dominant themes in the score. The first one is very soft and gentle and it is introduced with flute solo in the beginning. It is usually played with strings. Also, chorus is often added to it to soften the texture. The theme is like saying I have a dream and I will make it come true. The second one is a fast paced triumphant and glorious waltz (I am not sure if I should call it waltz but it is in three). Prominent horns sound is the key of it. It is a theme that will definitely pump you up. There is also a brief clarinet version of it which I enjoy it very much also. The second theme is being used as trailer music quite often. It can also be heard in some NFL opening montages. The use of percussion in the last few tracks is the point where you can surely tell this is a Goldsmith score. This glorious orchestral score is highly enjoyable. With the beautiful arrangements and melodies, it is certainly one of the best Goldsmith scores. | |
