When I first read "Composed and Performed by Scott Gilman" on the album cover, I have already doubted if I would like the score. It's not because of the name "Scott Gilman", but rather the word "Performed". The word "Performed" simply implies that the score is purely synthesized music in this case. I never really find myself enjoying pure synthesizer score except for some Vangelis' works. Scott Gilman's score to Seven Days is not an exception. He has also scored for the TV series Melrose Place and Beverly Hillls 90210. For the foreigners' reference, Seven Days is a TV series that is about "an elite covert military intelligence team with the ability to allow one person step back into time for precisely seven days to undo catastrophic events." This release features music from three diffrerent episodes and is comprised with mostly short tracks. The "Main Title" is a tongue to cheek action cue. It is a perfect TV theme for a sci-fi action show. The rest of the score, however, is being very generic and standard. Most of the tracks are just music with heavy synth rhythm and beat and no real melody. You can tell the music will work very well for the show. However, it is just not all that interesting when listerning alone. There are a few tracks that are quite enjoyable, like "Let's Do It Again", "I Need A Valium", and "One More Time". "One More Time" is probably the only non-intense track on the album. It has a very happy rhythm and motif. It is best used for a happy ending. Unfortumately, there are not many of good tracks like that. It is a score that will neither bore you or pump you up. The music just circles around and sounds very much the same through out. After you have listened to the whole thing once, you will find youself hardly have any motivation to listen to it again. Even if you do, you probably would listen to only a few track. I would only recommend this one to the fans of the series. Otherwise, you should head for something else. | |
