This CD has just about the music from every major Arnold Schwarzenegger movie until 1994. Sounds pretty good right? However, one may not want to buy it because they are not original performances and you can get most of them in original. The performers are not listed on the outside of packaging. So when I first picked it up, I was wondering if they are performed by an orchestra or what. But I bought it anyway since it costed only 5 bucks. It turned out there are only four tracks that are performed by The City of Prague Philharmonic and the rest are performed with synthesizer. It should not matter very much since some of the them are originally synthesized anyway. For example, Raw Deal, Commando, Red Heat and The Running Man. I am very disappointed that the Predator track is synthesized (By the way, it is performed by the trailer master John Beal). Also for Conan The Destroyer, instead of the awesome opening theme, they pick a rather boring track "The Crystal Palace". True Lies is surprisingly close to the original. In some way it is more enjoyable than the original. Instead of a score selection from Michael Kamen's score to Last Action Hero, they put on two pop songs instead. So you can probably forget about that. Among the four orchestral tracks, Red Sonja is the best one. In my opinion, you can skip the other three since they are nothing compare to the original or those Cincinnatic Pops performances. In fact, I enjoy those Raw Deal, Commando, Red Heat, and The Running Man very much. Also, the score to Commando has never been commercially available. So, you can listen to some more of James Horner's 80s score here. In general, there is no particular reason why you should get this CD but it certainly will visit you stereo from time to time. | |
