Both Randy Edelman and Hans Zimmer like to use the mixture of synthesizer and orchestra in their scores. Yet, the music texture of their scores are quite distinct and different. Since the rising of the Media Ventures composers, like Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams, I am not quite sure if I can distinguish Zimmer's new action scores any more. However, no composer has a style close to Edelman's synth+orchestra style up to day. Tall Tales is very similar to his another Disney effort, Angels in the Outfield. Edelman's scores are usually thematically strong and this one does not fail to do so. He composed another simple but yet catchy theme. The theme is similar to those in Angels in the Outfield, Dragonheart, and Gettysburg. As usual, the theme gets build up more and more as the score goes no. The theme is happy and with a bit heroic sense. Most of the music is so happy and rousing that will definitely put you into a good mood. Also, he uses guitars in some of the music, just like how he uses guitar in his theme to The Last of the Mohicans. The score is very enjoyable and melodic throughout. "John Henry" is the only track that sounds very different from others. It is the only track that with chorus and a very strong comical sense. It is definitely my favourite track. So, if you enjoy Angels in the Outfield, Dragonheart, or Gettysburg, you definitely will love this one too. | |
