"Doug and Carol: Dreams Can Come True"
Opening:
Shot of Doug Ross, in bed (alone), apparently in the middle of a dream. We see Doug and Carol in
the hospital, joking and talking to one another. They lean to each other and kiss tenderly. Another
shot shows the two of them at the employee Christmas party, dancing and kissing under the
mistletoe. Suddenly, Doug awakes from his dream and a big grin spreads across his face. "Those
were the days," he says to himself.
Scene One: County General
Carol, Haleh, and Jerry are all busy working at the desk when Doug enters the ER.
Doug: Good morning, everyone!
All: Hi....morning Doug.
Carol looks up from the chart she is working on and their eyes meet for a minute.
Haleh: Just in time, Dr. Ross. 6 yr. old, victim of an MVA. Ambulance is pulling
up now. (sirens heard)
Ambulence attendants burst through doors.
Attendant: 6 yr. old, female, unconscious, victim of an MVA. Child was
unrestrained and thrown from car. 28 yr. old female driver, possibly the mother,
DOA at the scene. Child has apparent severe head injuries.
Doug: Trauma One! Carol- help me out here!
Doug and Carol rush to the trauma room together and all begin to work feverently to save the little
girl. Time passes.
Carol: Doug- I've got a heartbeat!
Doug: Ok, Haleh, call surgery, tell them we have a pediatrics case that needs
surgery, stat!
Haleh runs to call surgery.
Doug: Great work, everyone.
Carol looks up at Doug and their eyes meet. They both smile and then look back down at the
patient.
Scene Two: Lounge
Carol is at her locker getting here things out; she is done for the day. Doug is standing in the
doorway, watching here, again picturing the two of the standing outside of the ER together. Doug's
thoughts are interrupted by Carol.
Carol: Doug? (pause) Doug??
Doug: (coming out of his trance) Hi....Carol.
Carol: Doug- Is something wrong?
Doug: No...No....uh....I was just...thinking.
Carol: (strange look) Oh....ok. Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Doug. (begins to
walk away)
Doug: Ok....No, wait, Carol. We need to talk. We really need to talk, now. Can
we go somewhere private?
Carol: (puzzled) Ok...sure. Would you like to come back to my house?
Doug: (smiling) Yeah. Thanks, Carol.
Carol: Ok, let's go. (Doug and Carol walk out and leave the ER)
