Newcomers in this month's chart: - The highest placed newcomer of the month is also the new no. 1. Well, Cameron Diaz has actually been on the list before, so she's not a genuine newcomer. Why is Cameron no. 1, you may ask. Well, Cameron Diaz' new movie, "There's something about Mary" has been doing very well and seems to become this summer's hit comedy. Off-screen, Cameron and Matt Dillon is the hottest, most talked about couple in Hollywood right now (besides Demi and Bruce of course, who people talk about for the opposite reasons). Cameron recently also was cover girl for Details Magazine. And finally, Cameron has quite a lot of fans out there. She is one of the most requested celebrities on the Internet right now. So, that's why we have a new number one... - Catherine Zeta Jones is a British actress who broke through big time in her home country when she appeared in a TV series called "Darling Buds of May" back in 1991.   Catherine has had some tough years since then, mostly appearing in a number of mini series. Then Steven Spielberg saw one of her mini series (the TV version of "Titanic") and decided that he wanted her for the leading female role in"The mask of Zorro". The future looks brighter than ever now for the girl with the naughty smile, she is about to star in several major movie productions. Not bad, Catherine... - Liv Tyler was recently rumored to be the reason why Demi Moore and Bruce Willis broke up. According to the rumors, Liv and Bruce was in the middle of something very intimate at Bruce and Demi's home when Demi unexpectedly returned home and found them. Well, that's what the gossip says anyway, meanwhile the new movie that Liv stars in, "Armageddon", has been doing really well, so I am pleased to welcome Liv back to the list. - Isla Fisher was the perhaps most popular actress in the Australian soap "Home and away". Now she has left the show and will move to Paris in the Autumn to attend a theatre school. Why she would do that beats me, since she has been an actress for half of her life. Good look to her anyway and hope that this will not stop her from appearing in new TV series and movies. - If you think that I have to much young women on the list these days, the next newcomer should be a pleasant surprise. Christine Lahti is definitely not a newcomer in Showbusiness, she has been a professional actress since 1975. The actress with the cute dimples is nowadays doing very well in the hospital drama series "Chicago Hope". - Sarah McLachlan is a Canadian musician who have lots of devoted fans out there because of her unique music. Sarah is also the organizer of the Lilith Fair tour (can't help thinking of the Lilith character in the comedy series "Cheers" that Frasier used to be married to when I see that name). Lilith Fair is a lot like Lollapalooza in the sense that a number of music acts get together and perform at various locations. Lilith Fair is however only open for female musicians and that gives the tour a special character. Artists such as Natalie Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O'Connor, Meredith Brooks and Rebekah are performing this year so if you have the chance to see it, you should definitely grab it... Movers: - It's award nominations season again, this time for the Emmy Awards (US TV) and MTV Music Video Awards. A lot of women on the list received nominations for both kind of awards. Starting with the Emmys, "E.R." and "The X-Files" received the most nominations (16 each). "Ally McBeal" also did well, receiving as much as 10 nominations. Among the women who received nominations for awards as best actresses were Calista Flockhart, Helen Hunt, Gillian Anderson, Julianna Margulies, Christina Lahti (newcomer on this month's list), Jenna Elfman and Kim Delaney. Looking at the nominations for the MTV Video Awards, Madonna was the most successful female, receiving a total of eight nominations. Shirley Manson's group Garbage also received eight nominations, something which must feel good for the members of the group, considering the fact that their new album hasn't been all that successful. Other women who received nominations were Mariah Carey, Natalie Imbruglia, Shania Twain, Fiona Apple and Celine Dion. Both award ceremonies are held in September, so good luck to all nominees then! - I think it's about time to make a comment about the British Magazine FHM's Top 100 sexiest women list. The sexiest women of 1998 was according to the voters no other than Jenny McCarthy (who you by the way no longer can find on my list). Well, I guess that's a question of taste, really. Out of the 100 women on the FHM list about 50% is or has been on my list. Of the remaining 50%, about 20% of the women are local celebrities, meaning that they are only famous in the UK and therefore not qualified for my list. All this said, it was a pretty good list so if you haven't seen yet, I recommend that you have a look at it. It should be available somewhere out there on the Net. Almost made it into the list (we'll see next month): - Laura Linney, starring in the blockbuster (and new Jim Carrey) movie "The Truman Show". - Sarah O'Hare, Elle isn't the only model that Australia has to offer. - Sandra Bullock, back at last with "Hope Floats". - The youngsters Natalie Portman, Katherine Heigl and Ivanka Trump (model whose father is a rich guy named Donald). - Joey Lauren Adams, yet another American actress who is doing well. - Claire Forlani, perhaps most well-known as one of the "Mallrats". - Heather Medway, Viper woman. - Stephanie Seymour, who is as popular as ever. - Alyson Hannigan, one of the "Buffy the Slayer" girls. - Brooke Satchwell, Aussie actress, starring in the no 1 soap of Australia, "Neighbours". - Josie Maran, fresh new model. - Tyra Banks, cool supermodel. Comments, nominations, etc. are as always welcome. Just remember that a nomination such as "Ms. x should be in because of her big hooters" hardly will be taken seriously. Until next month, / Mauvaise Honte
