Although it may not seem so, THE LIST IS BASED ON A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE OF THINGS. Newcomers in this months chart: - There is no use to continue to ignore the fact that the Spice Girls is one of the hottest acts in Europe now. They have now scored their third hit with "Two become one" and have also invaded North America, so beware. The Spice Girls have been represented before on this list (that time it was Gerri who was on the list). This time it is perky Emma who enters the list at a high position. - It took a remix of one of Tori Amos' songs to give her a big hit. "Proffesional Widow" recently topped the UK singles chart. Hard core fans didn't like the remix, but then again, hard core fans never seem to like that their idol becomes liked by a bigger audience. Tori is a goddess and she sure has a lot of worshippers all over the world. - If you had asked me one year ago if Courtney Love could ever be featured on the top 50 list, I would definitely said no. But people change and that is one of the things that is most fun with life. Courtney has really got her stuff together again and has started an alternative career as an actress. She even got an Golden Globe nomination for her role in the new movie "The People vs Larry Flynt" and that is not bad at all. And by the way, I must say that I prefer when Courtney has that darker, natural colour of her hair. - There was a remarkably many people from UK and Australia at this year Golden Globe awards ceremony. You could here that english or australian accent in a lot of award acceptance speeches. Among this year's nominees, both Courtney Love and Frances MacDormand now enters the list. Frances portrayed a new kind of hero in "Fargo", a pregnant police detective. She is one of the cooler actresses in Hollywood and deserves to be charted on this list. - Three young, promising actresses also enters the list this month. Renée Zellweger really got a break when she was casted in the new Tom Cruise movie "Jerry McGuire". She will probably get quite a lot of new offers from now on, since the movie was such a big hit. Kate Beckinsale and Minnie Driver are both actresses from UK, but they have a quite different personality. Kate Beckinsale has done a lot of costume dramas where she portrays aristocratic women during the Victorian era, while Minnie Driver is most well-known for her performance in "Circle of friends", where she plays an irish working-class girl who lives in a small town and attends college in Dublin. What they do have in common is that they both have started to do movies in the US and that they very well can become big stars. Movers: - Madonna had a good month, with a Golden Globe award and her "Evita" opening and doing well in the US, but that still wasn't enough to hang on to the number one spot, because Toni Braxton managed to beat her in the end. Toni has had lots of success with her "Un-break my heart" single and is releasing a follow-up single now. She has also begun to get her annual share of music awards, starting with winning two awards at the American Music Awards ceremony. And don't get me started on the outfits she wore there, no wonder host Sinbad could not take his eyes of this beauty. - Gwen Stefani climbs another 22 steps, since she and her group has had continued success with "Don't Speak". I have heard that the song isn't even released as a single in the US, but that it still has been the most played song there. Seems kind of stupid to not release a single then... Almost made it into the list (we'll see next month): - Kristin Scott-Thomas and Juliette Bincohe, both star in "The English patient". - Moira Kelly, actress who "unhooked the stars" recently. - Stephanie Seymour, supermodel that has returned to the business again. - Jenny McCarthy, still America's little sweetheart. - Shania Twain, the most popular country singer in North America. - Claire Danes who started out in TV series 'My so called life' and now plays Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet'. - Kelly Preston, back on the big screen again, proving that she is more than just Mrs. John Travolta. - Maria Grazia Cucinotta, hot-blooded Italian actress who charmed the world in "Il Postino". - Celine Dion, one of a few singers who has world hits in two languages. Comments, nominations, etc. are as always welcome. Just remember that a nomination such as "Ms. x should be in because of her big hooters" hardly will be taken seriously.
