Although it may not seem so, THE LIST IS BASED ON A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE OF THINGS. Newcomers in this months chart: - Have you ever thought about how many of the young actresses featured on my list who also have a background as dancers? It's really amazing when you start thinking of it, it seems even more common that trained dancers becomes actresses than that supermodels becomes actresses. One women who has a background as both a professional dancer and model is the first newcomer on this month's list. She is from South Africa and her name is Charlize Theron. Charlize has just had her major breakthrough as an actress with the movie "The Devil's Advocate" and is getting real popular now, so you can be pretty sure that this isn't the last you hear about her... - The awards season must be Helen Hunt's favorite time of the year. God (and a number of dedicated fans) only knows how many awards Helen has won for her comedy series "Mad About You". Now, this year she was as always nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in that series, but didn't win! So guess what happens next... she wins a Golden Globe in the category Best Actress in a comedy/musical instead for her performance in "As good as it gets". Will this mean that Helen will drop her comedy series in favor of a career on the big screen? We'll see, maybe she'll continue to do both... - Calista Flockhart has been hanging around in the nominees section of the list for a while, but is now entering the real list, since she got a Golden Globe as best actress in a comedy series ("Ally McBeal"). As if that wasn't enough, "Ally McBeal" was also voted best comedy series. Not bad for a show that is rumored to be about to be canceled (wonder what they'll do now?). - It is really nice to see that Pam Grier got one of the major roles in the new Quentin Tarantino movie "Jackie Brown". She definitely deserved a break after years of appearing in B movies. Back in the 70s she was a major star, mostly remembered for her performance in "Coffy". Nowadays she's almost a cult figure. I don't mean to be sexist or anything, but as a matter of fact I happen to think that Pam in her prime had one of the two most beautiful bodies that I have ever seen. To whom belongs the other most beautiful body, you may ask? Well, drop me a line and I'll tell you... - The pattern is almost a classical one by now; an actor/ actress stars in an Australian soap ("Neighbours" or "Home and Away") and then moves to London to become a singer. Kylie and Dannii Minogue did it, Jason Donovan did it and now Natalie Imbruglia has done it too. Natalie had a rough start of her musical career, but once she managed to get her first sinlge out, "Torn", everything went REALLY well. Torn was one of the best selling singles last year and continues to sell well this year as well. Recently, it was discovered that "Torn" wasn't written by Natalie, something which had been assumed before and the British tabloids wanted to turn that into a scandal. These days, things like that hardly qualifies as a scandal though... Movers: - The obvious number 1 on this month's list is of course no other than the star of "Titanic", Kate Winslet. She didn't win a Golden Globe for her role, but she still can win an Oscar, so all is not lost. BTW, I mentioned last month that I thought her toughest competition for an Oscar would be Kim Basinger. As it turns out, Kim will probably be nominated in the best supporting actress category, so in fact they can both win. If Kim does not win an Oscar she can still be happy about her Golden Globe award. Rarely has an actress been as moved as Kim was when she accepted the award for Best supporting actress in a Motion Picture. - The American Music Awards was really lame this year and hardly worth seeing. Half of the people who got awards didn't even bother to come to the ceremony to pick up their prices. The big winners of the evening were the Spice Girls. The spicy ones' new movie "Spice World" is also doing well, especially in the UK. Otherwise, the big news this month is probably that Victoria became engaged to her favorite soccer player David Beckham. - Just wanted to say congratulations to Jada Pinkett and Will Smith who recently were married. While on the subject, congratulations to Pam and Tommy Lee who got their second kid... Almost made it into the list (we'll see next month): - Alyson Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter, both co-starring in   "Buffy the vampire slayer". - Jennie Garth, who plays Kelly in Beverly Hills 90210. - Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, yet antoher beauty from the same show. - Gabrielle Reece, model and sports woman. - Inés Sastre, hot latin spice. - Jenna Elfman, the star of the new ABC sitcom "Dharma & Greg". - Sarah McLachlan, musician with an edge. Comments, nominations, etc. are as always welcome. Just remember that a nomination such as "Ms. x should be in because of her big hooters" hardly will be taken seriously.
