Newcomers in this month's chart: - This month's highest new entry certainly seemed to make a "Deep impact" on movie audiences all over America. I am of course referring to Tea Leoni, who for the first time could be seen as a leading lady in a blockbuster movie. "Deep impact" is the second big budget disaster movie that has been doing well over the last half year (if you by the way can't name the other major disaster movie that I'm referring to, you have probably spent your last year on another planet). So movie goers all over the world, you know what this means... yes, they will drown us with disaster movies during the coming year! Anyway, congratulations to Tea, who also seems to continue to enjoy being married to Dave Duchovny, - This year's H&M swimsuit campaign in Northern Europe features my very own favorite supermodel Helena Christensen. Helena is perhaps the most beautiful woman in the world and it's nice to see that H&M has returned to using supermodels in their ads again. Unfortunately, not everybody agrees with me. Feminist groups all over Sweden have been sabotaging the campaign and have claimed the pictures of Helena to be pornographic. Now, help me out her, if pictures of a woman in a bathing suit is considered to be pornographic, then I guess that we should close down all our beaches, because there you can actually see women wearing... bathing suits! As I would like to put it, both beauty and filth are in the eye of the beholder... - In case anyone hasn't noticed it, Garbage is back with a new album called "Version 2.0". I recently saw an interview with the group where singer Shirley Manson described how she was recruited to the group. She lived back in Scotland and was the singer of a group that really wasn't doing that well when she one day received a phone call from three strange guys in the US who claimed to have seen her group's video and wanted her to join their band Garbage. As Shirley herself put it "I thought that they were three sleaze bags who wanted me in bed with them. As it turned out, they were three sleaze bags who didn't want to go to bed with me..." Another funny comment in that interview came from one of the guys when they were asked the question "If Garbage was a movie, what movie would that be?". Without any hesitation, he replied, "Three man and a baby"... - Helen Baxendale became famous in the UK when she portrayed Dr, Claire Maitland in the British TV series "Cardiac Arrest". This year though, she has moved across the Atlantic and joined the cast of "Friends". She fitted in so perfectly that some even consider her to be the seventh member of the cast. Being a "Friend" fanatic I wouldn't go that far, but her Emily character is just as good as Chandler's girl friend Janice. Anyway, nice to see a great British actress at work, proving that a "serious" actress also can do comedy. - Smashing Pumpkins has just released their new album "Adore". It seems as if Billy Corgan really meant what he said after the last album was released, i.e. that "You can only take this Rock'n'Roll thing so far", because the new album is no longer about Rock. Much like R.E.M.'s excellent "Automatic for the people" album, it is an album filled with thoughts about death, so it in deed a very heavy album to listen to. Still, the new album signals a new future for the band and when I attended a concert with them a few days ago they really seemed to enjoy playing the new material. And D'Arcy, the bass player in the band (and a new entry on the list) looked really cool on stage... - Jenna Elfman is another of the debutantes on this month's list. Probably most well-known as Dharma in the comedy series "Dharma & Greg", this delightful woman definitely lights up the small screen whenever she comes on. The "Dharma & Greg" show was renewed for the fall schedule over in the US, so I guess Jenna has plenty of work ahead of her. Despite that, I can't help but wonder when she will take the step from television to the movies. As far as I know, there are no definite plans for her to star in a movie, but it wouldn't surprise me if we will see her on the big screen soon. - The Finnish violin player Linda Lampenius is probably more well-known as Linda Brava in most countries. These days, she is almost considered to be the first lady of Finland, being the perhaps most famous Finish woman ever. I just had the opportunity to see her live and can report that she looks even better in real life than on pictures. Now, what qualifies Linda for the list is actually the fact that she could had done what everybody expected her to do, move to Hollywood and start a career as a babe in "Baywatch". In fact, she was offered a part in the series, but turned it down (something which really made the executives of the show mad). She decided to instead concentrate on her music and I think that was a pretty clever thing of her to do... Movers: - It was not all that easy to find a number one for the list this month, so I let the fans rule. Judging by the e-mails I have received over the last half year, the most popular girl on the Internet is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or as some people (who can actually distinguish television from real life) would prefer to call her, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Now, over the last three years, there have only been three women who have been as popular on the Net as Sarah is now, namely Sandra Bullock, Pamela Anderson and Gillian Anderson. Sarah has however not yet reached World fame. 90% of her fans are still North American citizens, so there is no telling how big she can become once the rest of the world jumps on the bandwagon. - I had the pleasure to see Janet Jackson live on her Velvet Rope tour recently. Now, Janet is really a professional entertainer, perhaps even too professional sometimes. It is clear to me who is the real talent in the family these days... - Jennifer Aniston has been reported to be dating no other than Brad Pitt now, after dumping her previous boy friend Tate Donovan. Regular readers of this list may recall that I reported that All Saints' Nicole Appleton dated Brad just a couple of months ago. Man, would I want to be Brad Pitt these days... - At the time I write this there are serious rumors out that the Spice Girls in fact may break up. Geri Halliwell has not been performing with the group for over a week now, so it looks pretty bad for the Femme Five right now. Geri seems to want to go solo instead, but nothing is official yet. Now, the question is, is this a bad thing or a good thing... Almost made it into the list (we'll see next month): - The youngsters Natalie Portman, Katherine Heigl and Ivanka Trump (model whose father is a rich guy named Donald). - Joey Lauren Adams, yet another American actress who is doing well - Katie Holmes, who can be seen in "Dawson's Creek - Claire Forlani, perhaps most wellknown as one of the "Mallrats". - Heather Medway, Viper woman. - Stephanie Seymour, who is as popular as ever. - Alyson Hannigan, one of the "Buffy the Slayer" girls. - Brooke Satchwell, Aussie actress, starring in the no 1 soap of Australia, "Neighbours". - Josie Maran, fresh new model. - Tyra Banks, cool supermodel. Comments, nominations, etc. are as always welcome. Just remember that a nomination such as "Ms. x should be in because of her big hooters" hardly will be taken seriously. Until next month, / Mauvaise Honte
