Newcomers in this month's chart: - None of this month's newcomers are really newcomers on the list. All the women have been on the list before. - The first "newcomer" on the list is Courtney Love, whose band Hole just has released a new album entitled "Celebrity skin". "Celebrity Skin" is by the way also the name of a sleazy Skin Mag that very few people openly would admit to read. I'm not sure if Courtney had that Magazine in mind when she named the album, but I'm pretty sure she has been featured in it. Anyway, Hole's new album is a lot more polished than the previous albums and I'm not sure if that is a good thing. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins is only one of many talented people who lended their talents to the production of the album and I guess all that talent lead to a less rough and dirty sound. Anyway, it's still not a half bad album and I love the video to the first single, also entitled "Celebrity Skin". Courtney and Melissa Auf Der Maur, the new bass player of the band, looks like a couple of friends from one of the numerous sitcoms the big Network companies have been flooding us with over the last years... - Four of the newcomers on the list are there because you voted on them. Natalie Portman, Sarah McLachlan, Alicia Silverstone and Drew Barrymore were all popular enough to enter the list. Natalie still hasn't released any movies this year, but it looks like she is about to star in several interesting movies, such as "South Beach" and Milos Forman's "The little black book". Most of us are however mainly waiting on the new Star Wars movie in which she plays queen Padme. - Sarah McLachlan is a very popular singer in North America, no doubt about that. She has however still not broke through in Europe, so it will be interesting to see if she will be able to produce a song or album that will make it allthe way to the top of the European charts as well. - Alicia Silverstone is still a popular actress, but she seems to have a lot of problems to take the step from teen queen roles to adulthood ditto. There has always been a lot of talk about that Alicia is a little overweight, but let's face it, it's not Alicia that weighs too much, it's the rest of the actresses in the industry that weighs too little. I mean, I think a lot of actresses like Milla and Jada looks great, but they say that the camera adds ten pounds, so they must be really skinny in real life. - Drew Barrymore is a very special actress. Very funny, with an interesting personality and an unusual look. Her latest interesting movie was "The wedding singer", in which she worked together with Saturday Night Live's own Adam Sandler. Hopefully, she'll find more good roles in the future, I for one would love to see her in some psychological thriller or something... - Christine Lahti won an Emmy as best female actress in a drama series ("Chicago Hope"). That is the second major award that she has won this year for that role, she also won a Golden Globe earlier, so I'd say she is the queen of TV drama now. Movers: - Madonna remains firmly seated on the throne of the list. The recent MTV Video Music Awards that was held was all about her. Ms. Ciccione won a total of six awards and she was without doubt the evening's big winner. Her "Ray of Light" video won her awards such as Best Choreography in a Video, Best Editing in a Video, Best Female Video, and Best Video of the Year, and her "Frozen" picked up an award for Best Special Effects in a Video. Not bad... - I made a comment last month about how unimaginative and boring the new pictures of Cindy Crawford that were published in Playboy were. I happened to mention that I thought that the photographer that shot her last time she appeared in Playboy did a much better job. Well, it turns out that it was the same photographer that photographed her on both occasions, Herb Ritts. All I have to say is - boy, has he lost his edge during the 90s, or what... - Who else on the list won awards at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Emmy's? Well, Natalie Imbruglia won an award as best newcomer at the MTV VMA. And Helen Hunt and Lisa Kudrow won the Emmys for best actress and best supporting actress in a comedy series (Note: Hellooo, Lisa Kudrow, SUPPORTING actress? She's the star of "Friends" so how come she was nominated as a supporting actress?). Almost made it into the list (we'll see next month): - Catherine Bell, actress, UK - Famke Janssen, actress, Holland - Frederique van der Val, model, Holland - Hannah Graaf, model/singer,Sweden - Magdalena Graaf, model/singer,Sweden - Kari Wuhrer, actress, USA - Jeri Ryan, actress, USA - Nicola Charles, actress, Australia - Patsy Kensit, actress, UK - Rose McGowan, actress, USA - Madeleine Stowe, actress, USA - Alicia Witt, actress, USA - Deborah Unger, actress, Canada - Sandra Bullock, actress, USA - Charlize Theron, actress/model, South Africa - Michelle Williams, actress, USA - Minnie Driver, actress, UK - Angelina Jolie, actress, USA Comments, nominations, etc. are as always welcome. Just remember that a nomination such as "Ms. x should be in because of er big hooters" hardly will be taken seriously. Until next month, / Mauvaise Honte
