I became smitten with Kristy after I saw "Little Darlings" on TV, in 1987
or so... Soon afterwards, I discovered that a local network (Global TV in
Ontario) was showing "Family" re-runs every night at 2:30 a.m. -- and missed
hardly an episode for a couple of years, seeing most of them several times... I
was fairly depressed at the time, for unrelated reasons -- and for a while,
getting to watch her every night was just about the only redeeming aspect of my
life... It's no exaggeration to say that I might not have made it without her.
And for that, I will always remain grateful.
Originally, there weren't that many pictures on this page. Once I
acquired the means of making still shots of my own choice, I added quite a few (and
will keep doing so.)
I nevertheless stand by what I wrote in this space earlier:
"[Kristy's] real beauty is IN MOTION. The little expressions -- grins, frowns, sighs -- that's
what's incredible about her, not just a pretty face." (A phrase deemed profound enough
to be quoted in "Film & Video On the Internet: The Top 500 Sites" by Bert Deivert and Dan Harries... The URL they give is quite out of date, though.) These pics may come closer to
capturing her greatness, but they are still (no pun intended) still ones; whereas,
on the other hand, QuickTime clips don't provide anywhere near the level of image quality
one would like (or else, take up prohibitive amounts of disk space.) For best results, rent or buy the actual movies. :-)
You may notice that she doesn't look happy in most of the above-mentioned shots. Some, but not most. She certainly has a very nice smile; but, IMHO, her true talent shines through when she's sad, angry, or in pain... That's why, of all her movies, my favourite ones are "The Summer Of My German Soldier," "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia," "Little Darlings," and "Dream Lover" -- movies in which her role is dramatic, or even tragic... And that is why, with the exception of a few scenes, I absolutely hated "Empty Nest" -- making her do "butt city"-type jokes is such an immense waste of her abilities... I hope they are put to better use in the future.
