21 Aug 2001 Comments: I was charmed and terrified by Ollie's performances on screen...God knows what it must have been like being in a room with him...we can but dream. My father was a fan of the great man, and a week after Ollie's death my Dad fell off a stool down at his local and popped his clogs when his ticker gave out. I knew he wanted to meet him but this was ridiculous! When my sister and I heard this awful news we got some comfort from the fact that the old man would probably go and share a drink with his hero in the Pearly Gates Arms where they never call time. I know this is sentimental and silly and I'm not trying to encroach on the heartbreak that's left for Ollies' loved ones and family after the romanticism and myth evaporates, but suffice to say that was a bad week for me.....still, let's raise a glass and stop whining. The light that burns twice as bright will inevitably burn half as long. |

Aug 2001 Comments: Mr. Reed was undoubtably one of the sexiest men that ever lived! He virtually seethed an erotic aura that is rarely encountered anywhere. And Ken Russell used it so well. His drinking brought it to the surface all the more. He certainly seemed to live for pleasure, and I admired his gusto. He was an unforgetable character who will be so sorely missed!
