Comments:
Russell Crowe comments that he just worked with Ollie and that he and Richard clicked more seems a bit harsh. Could it be that Russell and Ollie have to much in common. Looking at photos over the years, I (and you) have realised if Ridley Scott had done Gladiator a few years ago, Ollie would have been playing Maximus.

I have been a great fan of Ollie's since the age of nine and now at forty-two I feel that we are losing great actors for up and coming want-to-bes and one-hit wonders (Russell Crowe not included in this comment).

Russell is a fine actor and again, I have followed his career since seeing Romper Stomper. I'm glad Hollywood has given him that chance to play in lead roles.

As for Ollie, sadly he will be missed. Not only by me but by the future generations who will only see him on film-- and never knowing the real person. One day I hope to be sitting by his side talking, and hoping to see life through his eyes.

Oliver Reed's persona and performance in Women in Love opened my eyes to the power of male sexuality.  No actor I have ever seen could convey that through the camera the way Reed did.  He did the same thing as Bill Sykes in Oliver!.  Until that performance I had never understood why a character like Nancy could possibly remain with such a brute.

I would like to add a few words regarding Sir Oliver Reed. Sir Oliver Reed, I believe he definitely deserves this title...has been with us for over three and a half decades - in films.  I also believe he has been one of this (20th Century) Century's under-rated actor of all time.  Sir Oliver has always brought an inner depth to any of his "characters" that he has played over the years...one year on, and he will surely be missed and loved by all who have had the opportunity, the chance to see him at work.

Gladiator, what a fitting departure from this world to the next, for Sir Oliver Reed, and it seems that his life and nearing his death in a matter speaking parallels the movie Gladiator, especially the strength of his character, and in particular the character played by Russell Crowe - who's near death and waiting to be met with his loved ones, struggles to finish one last "act" of courage!  And what a befitting end to a career that has spanned three and a half decades.

I can go on and on about Sir Oliver, but I would like to end on a very positive note. Sir Oliver Reed has left this world, and we hope that one day we will all meet up with him.  For what he has left as a legacy will keep generations to come a legacy of hope, life and endurance! Respect for the man, the actor and the humanitarian!

I was saddened at the death of Oliver Reed. I first saw him in The Curse of the Werewolf in 1961. He was stunning. I fell in love with him then.

HE is buried 271 miles from where I live, so I went his grave. It was very moving for me. I could not believe he's been gone a year.

His widow Josephine has done him proud. He is buried under a large tree. There are tons of what seem to be wild flowers on top and a headstone that reads: "He made the air move". She really put a lot of thought into it. Just perfect.

We hear a lot about Oliver's drinking but what about his charity work? He did quite but of course, that isn't talked about.

We all miss him.

Favorite Reed Film: Women in Love. For me one of the most erotic film sequences I have ever watched is Oliver Reed and Alan Bates wrestling naked. My husband had a lot to be thankful to them for on the night I saw that one!

I always felt that Ollie should have played Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights.
