SYMPATHIES
My sincere condolences to the family
and friends of Oliver Reed. Fans can only but imagine what he was
like though never really know. Therein lies the pity!
I was so happy to finally find this Ollie site. It is nice to see others who love the great actor as I do. I was pregnant with my third child when I heard the sad news of his passing. Immediatly my friends asked if I would name the child Oliver in his honor. Such was my great devotion to the underappreciated Ollie.
May I extend my sympathies. I'm an Oliver Reed fan and looked up your site sadly, after hearing of his death. I enjoyed your website, and hope to see it grow. Thanks.
I will miss Ollie very much. I met him only once when I went to get my husband from the film studio in Borehamwood where Ollie was filming. My husband was working on the same film that Ollie was making. At the end of filming, he and all the crew were missing for a long time drinking... it was Ollie's way of thanking every one working on the film with him. My deep feelings to his wife.
Oliver's death came as very sad news to me, and I would like to pass on my commiserations to you and all the other Oliver Reed fans. He was a superb actor.
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends. Many thanks for your website dedication to Oliver Reed.
I'm a huge fan and have been so depressed since May 2nd. So many good things were about to happen to him. I can't believe he's gone. I'm collecting newspaper articles about him. I'm so happy to see that someone has set up a site dedicated to him at last.
What a bummer. I'm sure he was a lovely man.
I'm very sorry to hear of the death of Oliver Reed. How cruel that he left this world so soon. It's a defiant act that somehow reflects the villainous characters he played in reel life.
The news of Oliver Reed's death shocked and saddened me greatly for I have been a fan of his for many years.
I've always enjoyed watching Mr.Reed (a real man) for a change. Sincere condolences to all.
I'm so saddened to see that he's passed away. I feel a part of me as died with him.
I was just wanted to say how sad I was to hear about Oliver Reed's death. He was one of my favourite actors. As a child, I grew up watching his films. Not only was he a great actor of his generation, he had lots of charisma which a lot of the so-called stars of today don't have. God bless you Oliver.
What a loss to the film world and fans as well. What a great pleasure it was to watch an actor of his beat. He will be very much missed.
LOVE AND MISSES
Thanks for the webpages. I loved
Ollie from the moment I first saw him. Even though I haven't seen all his
films or kept up-to-date with his exploits, for nearly forty years he's
been there. After he died it felt like there was a big black hole in the
world that could never be filled. They'll never be another to take his place.
You're doing a great job and your pages have been a big help.
My husband took great care to break the news of Mr. Reed's death to me. He was so worried I would hear about it during the day. I still can't believe it.
I loved Oliver Reed so much even though I'm gay and he is not but I still miss him very much and I cry when I think of him never being around anymore. When I die, I hope I will get to see him face to face.
I was sorry to hear of the death of my great friend who I never knew. Ever since I was a schoolboy I have always loved Ollie. I am very religious and I pray for him every day. I shall always love him like a brother.
You can add three more names to your list of Ollie fans who were, and are still devastated by his death. He is so sexy!
REEL REED
I enjoyed the site. I always wondered
myself how Mr. Reed could have been so underrated. He was a fabulous actor!
Great stuff! It's about time! When I was in the industry just a couple of years ago, Ollie was and still is a cult favorite. Others seemed in awe of him.Great guy.Thank God he never sold out.
Many thanks for keeping Ollie's memory alive, mate! He was the pip of merry Olde England, when a man was still a man, and not one of those sensitive types, like so many of the actors nowadays. Let us hope that someday another fellow will replace him, a bloke not afraid to fly against the p.c.tide and willing to let the 'eagle's claw' go for the gusto! Go for it, Grandier!
Yes I am a fan. In his early movies Reed was so cute it is hard to think of him as a villain. I guess I prefer the younger handsome and "more sensitive" actor of the 60s and early 70s up to and including Women in Love and The Devils, when he seemed to still really care about trying to explore his craft--and the inner-workings of characters.
The first time I ever saw Oliver Reed was in a play on television called The Barn in the early 1960s. I can't remember anything about the story except the fact that a very young Ollie knocked at a house to ask for a place to sleep and the woman of the house put him in the barn. Later, when her husband was asleep, she trotted out to see him ... Don't blame her!
Thank you for your marvelous page. Ollie was my favorite actor for most of my life, and I was terribly sad to see him go. I thought he was one of the best period actors of our time, and loved him so much in Crossed Swords that I saw it about ten times in the first two weeks it was out in theaters. He was absolutely wonderful with a sword, and had such a marvelous passion in his delivery. If I heard he was in a movie, I'd go see it, regardless of how awful it was, just to watch him play his roles.
I loved Oliver Reed for many years, especially in The Three Musketeers because he was so lovely as Athos. I think Alexander Dumas just wrote the book to create such a tragic character.
Although this is a sad moment, I was delighted to find your page. I check for new information on Oliver Reed frequently, and I found your site. Ever since I saw Oliver!, I've been a great fan of Oliver Reed. Before I saw that film, I had seen two of his films. But now, some two years later, I've seen 17. It's a pity many of them are so hard to find.
DRINK TRIBUTES
Thanks very much for your site. I just came from watching Parting Shots.
It was a late show and I was the only one in the cinema, which meant I could
cry without feeling embarrassed. I have lived in Dublin for almost nine
years now.Every now and then they said in the newspapers that Oliver had
been in such pub or on the Leopardstown Races, to which he was fond of. I
often drive by the entrance of leopardstown races. Dublin does not seem
such a nice city anymore, since I know there will be no more chances of
seeing him.
Nice One! "Big Ollie" is too often neglected on this supposed information highway. Pity he had to die to be remembered. Make mine a double.
Please tell me the name of the bar where Ollie Reed died because I want to go there and pay my last respects drinking to the man where he last drank.
I have the same birthday as Oliver Reed, and I had this wacky dream of hopping on a plane on my 21st birthday and finding him to get pissy drunk! Who better to show you the ropes on getting drunk than Oliver Reed!
On a recent visit to Churchtown (to visit Oliver Reed's "local") we were very saddened and disappointed to see how unfriendly the people were to us. We intended staying a few hours, having a few drinks at O'Briens Bar (after seeing it in the paper). But on realising we were not welcome, we left after one drink never to return to lovely Churchtown. Disappointed.
I visited Oliver Reed's grave in Churchtown in Ireland. I had a pint at his local pub The O'Brien where I chatted to the barmaid. I also visited his other local pub and talked to the barmaid about Ollie and to the other people in the bar. I constantly asked them what he was like and the only reply I ever got was either "A true gentleman" or " charming and witty" so I can only assume that it was true. He was a truly great man, the finest actor Britain has ever produced. It is a great thing to say that I have come so close to such a man. Making this website is a very respectful thing to do and for that I congratulate you.
Just wanted to say I enjoyed your website devoted to Oliver Reed. He was, without a doubt, one of Great Britain's finest actors. I'm still amazed that he never did any theater, or even any stage work with The Royal Shakespeare Festival in Stratford-Upon-Avon. When I learned about his death, I drank a toast to him. Five glasses of red wine. And, yes, I was drunk after that. Keep up the good work on the site.
REEDING THE WEB
Finally a good website devoted
to Oliver Reed. I am so saddened by his death but I am so glad to see that
he does have fans who care. Thanks for this super website.
Nice to see a website with a little respect for a change!
Hi, loved "reeding" your site.
I really enjoyed visiting your site. I have been looking all over the web for more sites about Oliver Reed. He was my all-time favorite actor and I was very shocked to hear about his death. I hope many of his fellow actors attended his funeral. I wish that more had made tribute to him in the press.I had purchased his book, Reed All About Me, many years ago. It was one of the best-written autobiographies I had read. Not bad for a former child with a learning disability. Thank you for helping to keep Oliver's spirit alive.
Thanks for creating this website. I have had a crush on Oliver Reed since I was twelve. When I heard he had died I needed details and thanks to you they were easy to get. It's nice to be able to commiserate with those who feel like I do about him.
A highly commendable thing to do--to bring a homepage on the net about an actor of Oliver Reed's dignity. Keep up the good work!
Your website is very nicely designed and fun to go through.
I was glad to see your site existed. I was looking at your new design, which I like very much.
Hey great to see a page on Ollie!
Thank God, there is somewhere I can get some info on Oliver Reed. I'm an old fart who has been fascinated with this actor since the 60s! You're absolutely right, information is hard to come by.
I just wanted to thank you for continuing to update your Oliver Reed website! I check it just about everyday to see if there is any new news (or "old" news, for that matter) on Ollie or the movies he was working on, or recently completed, prior to his death. Thanks so much for keeping us current. I'm sure Ollie would have appreciated it as well.
Thank you for creating a website dedicated to this wonderful actor. I am eternally greatful to you for making your website and links available. It is full of wonderful information about the actor and the man.
Thank you so much for the Oliver Reed web page. Would you believe I was on the web searching Oliver Reed information on Sunday May 2nd? Strange but true--unknowing that he was leaving the planet even as I was searching for him. I had been so frustrated to find virtually nothing. The weirdest part of all was that I was sure he was dead because I had not seen him being bad in bad movies for almost a decade. I had in fact supposed that he had died in a bout of drinking, partying, and roughhousing! I had been so relieved to find out that he was alive. And then so shocked the very next day to find out that he had just died the way I had supposed. I've been in a month of grieving.
I just read your Oliver Reed website. First of all, it's marvelous! Hooray for Oliver! I wonder if he ever saw your website? Too bad he never emailed you, that would have been perfect. I can't believe he's gone.
It's good to see that the great man is remembered on the web. A work colleague and myself were talking about the lack of Reed on the internet about a month ago.
About bloomin' time. I've been looking for Ollie stuff for ages. Great site, keep it up. Miss him terribly.
