EPISODE: ELOGIUM

Breen - This species is one of the most warlike species; among the Breen pregnancy at an early age is a common event. (Elogium)

Electromagnetic (EM) resonance field - The space dwelling life forms seem to be creating their own magnetic field and pulling Voyager along with them; this field cause Kes to go through a false elogium. (Elogium)

Electro-phoretic activity - The Doctor detects elevated levels of this activity in Kes's nervous system. (Elogium)

Elogium - This is a stage in an Ocampa female's development where the body prepares for fertilization; it usually happens when a female is 4 or 5 years old; it will only occur once; Kes seems to be going through the elogium even though she is not even 2 yet; the false elogium was brought on by the electromagnetic field of the creatures. (Elogium)

Force field - After the Doctor finds a strange growth on Kes's back, she becomes delirious and erects a force field in the Doctor's office; Janeway convinces her to lower the force field and let them help her. (Elogium)

Gabarosti stew - Neelix serve this leftover stew to Tuvok. (Elogium)

Gree - The Doctor says that stimulating the follicles on the proboscis of the Gree will result in the swelling of the auricular canal. (Elogium)

Ipasaphor - This sticky yellow ooze appears on Kes's hands; the ipasaphor makes the mating bond possible; after it appears she only has 50 hours to begin the mating process. (Elogium)

Main deflector - To nudge the creatures out of the way, Torres suggests that they modify the main deflector to create an inverted magnetic pulse and project it toward the creatures. (Elogium)

Mashed potatoes - Kes eats 6 bowls of mashed potatoes with butter; it is a terran delicacy that Ensign Wildman told her about; she puts a container of nitrogenated soil in it. (Elogium)

Mitral sac - The Doctor finds this sac on Kes's back; this sac normally appears when Ocampa females are going through the Elogium; it is where a child would grow. (Elogium)

Nitrogeneated soil - Kes puts some of this soil in her mashed potatoes. (Elogium)

Oblissian cabbage - Kes and Paris bring some of this cabbage from the Airponics bay to the Mess hall. (Elogium)

Plasma burst - The larger creature emits an electrically charged plasma stream when Voyager attempts to move away from it; the burst causes the smaller creatures to attach themselves to the larger creature. (Elogium)

Plasma residue - In order to mimic the behavior of the smaller creatures, Voyager vents plasma residue which makes Voyager look blue. (Elogium)

Rolisisin ritual - Before the mating process may begin, Kes has to go through this ritual where one of her parents must massage her feet until her tongue begins to swell; during this ritual a parent and child move into a new kind of relationship where the parent must acknowledge the child's true adulthood; Kes has the Doctor perform this ritual. (Elogium)

Scathos - Any woman of this race who conceives a child before her fourth decade is executed. (Elogium)

Space dwelling life form - Voyager discovers a space-dwelling life form when it discovers a magnetic distortion; it flagellates like protozoa; the life form doesn't appear to have a digestive system and has an exterior porous outer covering which can absorb nutrients directly from space; it is capable of metabolizing inorganic matter; the largest creature perceives Voyager as a rival and attacks the ship; Voyager imitiates the submissive behavior of the smaller creatures by venting plasma residue so that Voyager will appear blue and by taking the ship into a roll. Spawn beetle - Kes and Neelix find a spawn beetle in the oblissian cabbage that she and Paris bring to the Mess hall; Kes inadvertantly eats some of these later. (Elogium)

Targ scoop - The Klingons attach targ scoops to the front of ground assault vehicles and then emit high-frequency tones that disperse targ herds in their path; Torres suggests that they use something similar to nudge the creatures out of their way. (Elogium)

Wildman, Samantha (Nancy Hower) - Female Ensign on Voyager; she discovers she is pregnant; her husband is still on DS9. (Elogium)
