The "Meteor" that crashed in the year 1999 brought tremendous increases in technology. By the year 2015, even schools have access to training mecha, and learning how to pilot robots is actually part of the curriculum.
The Central Astro Agency and Earth Defense Force, while advanced, tend to use fairly conventional weapons. Space defense consists of the space station L-3, and its complement of Mercury space fighters. These fighters have both conventional explosive missiles, and nuclear. While they were designed to intercept any spaceship, they proved mostly ineffective against Egota class cruisers.
Ground defense is still largely conventional, such as tanks, helicopters, battleships, and so forth. The Osprey air superiority fighters proved themselves fairly useful against individual fighter craft, as did the CLAW tanks.
The paramilitary forces, such as the Public Workers Defense Force are the greatest users of unconventional "robot" technology, where the versatility of the mecha is most apparent. In moments of crisis, the streets of Graviton come alive, as the transforming vehicles of the P.W.D.F. come out of the woodwork.
