Mention the name Alicia Witt, and the first thing that comes to mind is her fiery red locks. But even when the 20-year-old actress slips into one of her many wigs (like she does on these pages),[You can look at the pictures here] you've still got one red-hot star.
While her hobbies range from wig-collecting to classical music (Alicia is an award-winning pianist), acting is her passion. In addition to her weekly gig on the CBS sitcom Cybill (she plays Cybill Shepherd's way-brainy-but-rebellious daughter, Zoey), Alicia's been doing the big screen thing for years, starting with her debut in the 1984 sci-fi flick Dune. Cut to the present, and you can catch her in Mr. Holland's Opus, in which her shy, clarinet-weilding character is worlds apart from the sarcastic comedian she plays on the tube
"Acting is magical," Says Alicia. "Change your look and your attitude, and you can be anyone. Like, Zoey's supposed to be a 'typical' teenager. What do I know about that? I've never even been to a prom!" (Acting has been her life since she was all of 7.) Not only does Alicia get to try on more personalities than Roseanne has on a busy day, she also gets to kiss some pretty major babes: "On-screen relationaships are the best because you don't have to worry about saying the wrong things. And if the guy's got a girlfriend, or I'm not attracted to him, it's even better. It's just my character kissing his character."
With a bordering-on-colossal career in TV and film, what more could a girl ask for? "Actually, when I was a kid, my dream was to be a farmer and marry Charlie Brown," Alicia admmits." I wanted to rescue him and make him happy. Besides, he was always lusting after 'the little redhead girl."
So why on Earth would she want to cover up all that natural crimson? "Redheads get so stereotyped," she explains, "You're either exotic and wild or totally Victorian. But when I throw on one of me wigs and change my makup, I can be whatever I want."
