It's finally here! The remake that shocked everyone has arrived!
Back in April, when Gus Van Sant announced that with Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment they would remake this horror classic, many people were shocked. To tell you the truth, I was too. I just coulnd't undersatnd why he wanted to redo this movie.
Well, months passed and the first teaser trailer came to the small screen ( you can get it here ). I loved it. That's why i have a page for it.
As you all may know, PSYCHO is the story of a mysterious man, Norman Bates, that owns a Motel, The Bates Motel. He lives right behing the motel, with his "imaginary mom". Then, on a Friday, Marion Crane, an Arizona working woman, steals $400.000 dollars from her office and she goes meet her boyfrind, Sam Louis. on the way she is caught in a storm and pulls over. Guess where? The Bates Motel! Now is the time for that famous shower scene...
After about a week, Sam Louis and Lila Crane, Marion's sister, and Sheriff Chambers, Marion's office detective, are set to find her with the money. All of them assume she had been to the Bates Motel. Off they go to find more secrets and craziness....
All of the actors do a very good job, specially Vince Vaughn's. He was a real psycho! Anne Heche is a good replacer in place for Janet Leigh's. Julliane Moore and Viggo Mortensen are the typical Hollywood star, but sill, they do a decent job.
Now, I shouldn't be complaining to Gus Van Sant, but yes, to Hithcock. This is because this remake was exacly like 1960's PSYCHO. The scenes are bit long in lenght and that's a bit hard to keep your attention, though a nice dialogue and the nice characters help this stay alive
Gus Van Sant decided to make PSYCHO, a sho for shot remake. Of course, there are some changes. The amount of money that Marion steals is different, instead of $4.000 it's $400.000. Lila is gay, but this doesn't make any difference to the story. And the set also changes.
In my opinion the first weekend box office will be aroun $ 10 million and it's final box office will be around $ 25 million.
Even though, this movie was better than expected. I liked it, but it is useless. I advice you to wait for this one.
