Toy DescriptionsNew Pictures of the Toys (click on image for full size)Descriptions of the Toys: These toys are known as Mini-Disk Launchers toys for the Cool Combo Kids Meals at Carl's Jrs, a fast food chain like McDonalds. They were made as part of the promotion for the Hercules and Xena Animated movie "Battle for Mt. Olympus" due out in straight-to-video in January of '98. There are four toys altogether: Xena, Hercules, Hydra, and Echnida. They are all about 4 inches tall with a pull string in the back and a plastic point on the head where the disk is placed. When the pull string is pulled hard...the disk spins really fast and takes off flying! Xena: This figure was casted in flesh color plastic. The armor is painted very dk purple... but at casual glance, it looks the right color for her outfit. The armor on her arms are painted the same purple color. Her eyes are blue and her hair dk brown. The boots are painted a brownish-orange color. The sword on her back is brown as well. It is my guess that the people who did the painting didn't have a wide choice of colors so had to use something else for the armor since the hair and the sword are "part" of the armor and would not really stand out otherwise. However, the detail given in the plastic is outstanding! You can see the ties on the front of her boots, the pattern in her skirt (has vertical flaps), the gold circliques on the breastplate look pretty accurate as well. This doll looks MUCH more like Xena than the stupid 5" Xena II doll made by Toy Biz! My attempt at a picture of the toy...not much better than Barrons if at all Hercules: Basically as well done as the Xena one in terms of details in plastic - you can see the crisscross pattern in his pants, paint job is a little worse cause they left his pants the orange of the plastic it was created in. Hydra: Looks basically like a grey serpent coiled around a stick, head is fairly close to the Hydra in the Hercules logo, no painting done, toy is all in one color...the grey color of the plastic used in toy. The face detail is pretty sharp and clear and all in all looks fairly good despite the lack of painting. Of course, any crafter can buy a couple paints and paint the Hydra as well as any of the others to greatly improve their appearance! Echidna: This is a bad rendition IMO, the head is too small and her arms are going behind her head like if she's screaming, but the arms are so thick the toy looks more like a tree trunk with a face coming out of it...this one really needed painting on it to distinguish the features, yet its just one color...a ugly green plastic List of items that I may be selling in the near future:
