This is a temporary page - it will be replaced soon with a review of A Month in the Country

This page is really just here to see if I could embed links in the text. But since you are here:

Seven bits of trivia about "A Month in the Country"

1. When Birkin writhes in agony in his bed at the start, he yells out "Vinnie!", the name of his absent wife.

2. When he's walking through the rain to the church for the first time and drops his bag, Colin does a brilliant Donald Duck impersonation in the way he says "Bugger it!"

3. Colin has a very pronounced use of sibilants. This applies to all his work. I find this unusual, because many (English) actors cultivate more of a "sh" sound to their sibilants, whereas he goes for the pure "sss".

4. Ken (Moon) Branagh says more text in his first speech than Birkin has said in the whole movie up to that point. Of course, Birkin has told us volumes through his looks and silences.

5. Patrick Malahide was clearly limbering up for his Edward Casaubon portrayal in playing Rev. Keach. I have to remind myself that this actor is in fact quite versatile. (Anyone see The Singing Detective?)

6. You won't see a dimple in CF's cheek until the scene when he's being invited to dinner by the children of the chapel crowd.

7. The little Ellerbeck boy looks uncannily like a young Timothy Spall (Lyndon in Dutch Girls).
