RAVENOUS (1998)

YOU ARE WHO YOU EAT . . .

Ravenous is Robert Carlyle's latest release, first screened at the 1999 Sundance Festival.

The following blurb on the movie appeared in the March 1998 issue of Movieline magazine:

In Ravenous, Fox 2000's historical film directed by Milcho Manchevski (Before the Rain), Guy Pearce of L.A. Confidential will play one of a small group of U.S. soldiers who is stalked by a cannibalistic pyschopath to be played by The Full Monty star Robert Carlyle. Carlyle's character is so hungry for flesh that he tracks Pearce and his comrades through the snowy Sierras.

The Guardian 8 January 1998 adds the following tidbits:

He was filming Ravenous "currently" in the Czech Republic, with co-stars named as Guy Pearce and Tom Waits. It is a film "about the American frontier in the last century".

So he's playing another psychopath . . . In the traditions of Albie and Begbie?

An interesting Tom Waits link:
- Robert Carlyle co-founded Raindog - a theatre company in Glasgow named after the song by Tom Waits . . .

Stop press: It appears that Antonia Bird has replaced Milcho Manchevski as the director of Ravenous. This will be the fourth time she has directed Robert, their previous collaborations being Safe, Priest and Face. All one-word titles, coincidentally!
