David Rintoul, the Mr. Darcy of my era, was a real "hottie", if you can pardon that American expression! However, I'm next going to the amazon.com movie site and order the Colin Firth version just to see if you are right. I saw Colin Firth in CIRCLE OF FRIENDS and thought him very ugly and dumpy. Perhaps he doesn't always look like that!?!

I would like to know if the character Darcy had a first name. I was at one site and they said his first name was Fitzwillam. I saw the movie several times and I was under the impression that was his cousin's name. I don't recall ever hearing a first name for Mr. Darcy. I have not read the book so I don't know if it is in there or not. Could you please clear this up for me? Thank you,Mary

I have enjoyed everything that Robert Caryle has acted in since I first saw him in a "Cracker" eposide a few years back. Then I watched him in Hamish McBeth , and was blown away by his acting so naturally and real.

A hard character to play, as I discovered during my theatre years. Good luck with the rest of this "site", an I hope to hear from you soon. I would like to hear your own opinions on the characters of Austen's literature. Must dash Bertie

I happened to stumble onto your site by accident and I am so glad that I did. I read Pride And Prejudice about five years ago. I was so excited when I saw the A&E adaption. It is, I think, by far the best one out. Colin Firth IS Mr. Darcy. To see anyone e se in the role is a total injustice. I think one of the best scenes, which you did not discuss, was the scene where Elizabeth, along with Mr.and Mrs. Gardiner, was dining at Pemberley. My heart almost broke when I saw the dreamy looks that Darcy was givin Elizabeth, especially after she rushed to the aid of Georgianna when Miss Bingley had made a comment about Mr.Wickham. The love that shone through his eyes was so moving. They are the perfect couple.

If unavailable, then I will try to get the book in English or French "Dangerous Liaisons" or "Les iaisons Dangereuses". I read everything I can about Colin Firth. I am particularly fond of English Drama, English movies, English mysteries. I don't read much but I bought all books written by Jane Austen and it all started because of P&P. I am not a oung chick, and I do not like nowadays silly movies and comedies.

Dear Lisa: I was looking for some information on Robert Carlyle and ran into your site. I'm a big fan of Robert's since I first saw him in the series Hamish McBeth here in Ontario. I have since seen him in Priest, Safe and The Full Monty. I am hoping to find Go N w on video but I live in a fairly small city that does not always get all the movies you would like to see, especially some of the smaller films so I will hope for the best. Anyway it has been fun seeing the pictures of Robert Carlyle, some of which I ha e saved, and also reading about him. I have only been on the net for a short time and I am quite enjoying it. I've only just discovered 1)computers, 2)the Internet, and 3)the astounding number of sites in praise of Mr. Firth's work. I had been 2 1/2 years behind in what he was up to until now ! I am filled with undying gratitude! As an artist, I have been trying to get a likeness, but after five tries, I am beginning to have the opinion that he doesn't HAVE a likeness...he just sort of metamorphoses with each new role! I guess I'll have to settle for 'likenesses' of each role...now how many portraits would that be???....aaghhh! Love your site and hope you get back to finishing some of your interrupted commentary. A zillion thanks! Karen

read your review of Carlas Song because I havnt seen it yet (unavailable in Canada) and because Im a Robert Carlyle fan (amply available in Canada). Anyways, I am surprized at your indifference (cloaked in movie review) to the Nicaraguan situation at the ime of its revolution and aftermath of 1980s...how can one be in anyway relieved to see a Contra attack... Even most Americans now realize what a bad idea that fiasco was; and they usually dont get it.

You were right on the mark. I like the scene at Netherfield, when Jane was ill. Twice Darcy tries to tell Elizabeth he is aware of her in his awkward way. She, because of prejudice thinking, either egnores him or is quite unaware of him trying to compli ent her. 1 - When he compares his sister's height with Elizabeth. 2 - When he acknowledges that an accomplished women is one who "must yet add something more substantial, in the improvement of her mind by extensive reading."

June 26, in New York at the Quad Cinema, with openings around the rest of the country to follow (including L.A. July 24, San Francisvo July 9, etc.) It's being distributed by Shadow Distribution, a small company with small financial resources...so we'd appreciate all the help we can get in passing the word on about people's chance to see this wonderful film. Mr Firth could be the next Lawrence Olivier, but we are not privy t many of his earlier projects-why I wonder, areen't many of his TV films not available. Perhaps this could be discussed on the web. Again, thanks for the pleasure you have afforded me. Ellie

Comment on your P&P review. I mostly agree about Colin's Darcy. However, the "diving in the lake scene" just doesn't work for me. As Austen says toward the end in response to Lizzy's teasing, "He is not ready to be laughed at yet" so is he not ready to jump into a lake.

Hi, You seem to have a lot of information on the Jane Austen adaptations that I love (including the actors. Can you give me any information on Joh Carson who played Mr. Knightly in the 1972 version of Emma. I don't know if he is still acting - that was quit some time ago, and he was not a teenager (I'm happy to say) at that time. I did see him on an Agatha Christie Poirot: An Incredible Theft that aired on A & E a few weeks ago. I recognized his voice before I realized who was portraying the Major. I li ed the 1972 video of Emma far better than any of the others. Mr. Woodhouse and Miss Bates should have received best supporting actor roles. They were remarkable. I thought that Colin Firth was the best Darcy ever. David (?) Rintoul constantly looked as if he were sucking on a lemon. And still, I love them all. I am admittedly obsessed with the Regency period. I can't get enough of the novels that are published each month. I buy them as soon as they appear on the shelves. I have more than a hundred 'keepers' that I re-read when I get desperate enough. I have just about everything that Marion Chesney has ever written. I have read them all. I am waiting for ' he Homecoming' which is the sixth and final volume in her latest series, The Daughters of Mannerling. My favorite series of hers (The Six Sisters) has memorable characters similar to those written by Jane Austen. I know she has been likened to JA. If you, too, are a Regency buff, I'd love to hear from you, too. Thanks for your great Web Site. I'm enjoying it no end. Pearl

Dear Lisa, Hello, I enjoyed viewing your page. Absolutely nothing to be embarrased about, more proud of, I think. Your lay outs are all clear and the colours fresh and simple. The colour pictures are cool. I liked the Mars picky. I liked the Allen Hall, out side shot then being able to enter the theater a bit like a virtual tour, kind of. Colin Firth, I did not realize he had been in so many movies and productions. He has a lot of films coming out this year. I am not very happy with my pg at the moment. I like your table. That saves up a lot of space, not so much scrolling. I tend to g t too carried away and bung lots of stuff in. I think I am going to start a new pg at Geocities. My page is with my Internet provider and it does not get as much exsposure as it could. For awhile I was doing an online Diary, that soon got deleted, took o much time. I want to have a film review section. I think I am also going to create my own Headers and signs in Adobe Photoshop, Thats where I got my garish backgrounds from. I would like to use Allen Hall's scanner if it would be possible some time. Al hough some of my photo's are slides and would have to be printed. Any way I have enjoyed visiting. Oh yeah why is your visit counter on the Colin Firth page rather than on the title page? Bye, Tama 8)

So this is what my Darcy Darlings from Down Under look like! All men out there: you must compliment me on my excellent taste in women! Well done, Lisa! Hey Sherri, have you moved - or you figure one "south" is as good as another? Kindest regards, Clin Frt

Hi, Lisa, I've had to skim through most of the firthlist mail but I went to your site today to see the picture of you with Colin. Only saw the little icon and could not bring in the large pic. I've bookmarked your website as I've always loved your reviews, comments, etc. and once I'm settled in my new home (moving Aug. 15th) I hope to be more active on the list. Dunedin was my favorite stop on a 10-day stay I had in N.Z. a few years ago. Hope to go back to visit relatives near Brisbane in the near future and see D. again. Love your picture near the river and enjoyed the 17 cent ury poem very much. Looking forward to visiting your site often. YIF Bobbie

I forgot to mention but they are going to screen Vertigo here. I may not be able to see it but it is one of my favourites. I also like the greenish pallor Hithcock used.

Hi Lisa, I'm back to see what's new. Lots! I'm very impressed by your work, and now also your "Colin Firth CV". Seems to be more complete than his agency's! Have you figured out the "Saturday Night Live" reference that is on his official CV? Will be back or more. Cheers, Lisbeth in Sweden

Hi Lisa! Thanks for sharing your web page with the FOF's. I always enjoy seeing pics of other firth sisters, it helps to put a face with a name! Tell me, who does the set design for your plays? Is this a community or school theatre? As an Interior Designer I've always thought it would be interesting to learn about set design. I live 3 hours from Disney World in Orlando, Florida, USA, and have a ways thought it would be fun to go behind the scenes. Disney does "everything" in a big way. Enjoyed browsing your web pages. Hope to hear from you. Pamela Phinson5@aol.com
