TAGGART
ITV Scottish Television series, set in Glasgow and starring (the late) Mark McManus as Chief Inspector Jim Taggart, and James MacPherson as Mike Jardine.
Robert Carlyle appears in an episode entitled "Hostile Witness" (1990) as an aspiring young politician named Gordon Inglis. He is elected as candidate for a minor party that calls itself the Referendum for Capital Punishment Campaign Party, which espouses "Bring Back Hanging" as its principal cause. In one of his scenes, he goes doorknocking on behalf of the party, and has a lot of doors slammed in his face.
As he says to Taggart: "I don't have an exciting job like you. I'm just a pensions clerk. But it's good to get involved in something you believe in."

THE BILL
He evidently appeared in an episode of The Bill screened in 1991, playing a young journalist named Tom Ward.

RC was in the first episode of a British TV series of this name which starred Leslie Grantham of Eastenders fame, playing a police character called DC Trevor Preston. he gets shot (and killed) in the line of duty. The episode dates back to approx 1991 or 1992.
