The Incredible Kevin Tod Smith

NEW! (15 April 2008) -- I haven't updated this page in ages, but I do have someting new to add! Creation Entertainment recently posted some video of Kevin's appearance at the 21-23 January 2000 Pasadena, CA, Creation Con. I was there, and the videos bring back wonderful memories. The world lost a wonderful human being in Kevin. He was a loving family man, genuine, gracious, humble, kind, talented, funny, and always willing to do anything for a good cause. I've never met anyone quite like him, and am honored to have gotten the chance. I believe if he had been given more time, the entire world would've eventually known who he was. But even though he left us too soon, he touched many people. And he won't be forgotten. Goodbye to a dear man.

Kevin's appearance in the SciFi 2-hour movie Riverworld was shown in March (and probably will be again in the future). He played a character (who was not in the books) named Valdemar. Unfortunately, his time on screen was short, and his voice was DUBBED! It's tragic. Check out this unofficial Riverworld site for more info. I taped the movie and hope to eventually have screen captures of it.

Also, he finished filming the movie Warriors of Virtue prior to his death.

Hercules' Two Brooding Brothers

Kevin Smith is the reason I began watching Xena regularly. I would've never known how much I really liked the show if it wasn't for the Studmuffin of War that drew me in! Besides playing Ares on both shows, Kevin also plays Hercules' brother, Iphicles.

Ares was in several episodes for Xena's final season, Season 6: Coming Home (10/2/00) (see the NZ Herald's review, which praises Kev), Old Ares Had A Farm (1/15/01), The God You Know (1/29/01), You Are There (2/5/01), Path of Vengeance (2/12/01), and Soul Possession (6/3/01). I hope to someday have snaps done of these episodes (and the others I've missed).

• Xena Magazine, Issue #3 -- The magazine has some great pictures of Ares from The Furies and The Bitter Suite.

• The Quill is Mightier -- A definite favorite of mine!
• Ten Little Warlords -- I bet I have some you haven't seen anywhere else!

• Dirty Half Dozen -- I really liked this episode!

• The Furies -- I got a big kick out of this episode. And got some great Ares shots to boot!

• The Deliverer -- This was a really tense episode. But Kevin looked great, as always!

• Fade Out -- Well, the episode was kinda goofy, but it was great to see Ares!

• Yes, Virginia, There is a Hercules -- Loved, loved, loved this one, and every one of the hunks in it!

• War Wounds -- Iphicles' hair greatly improves in this episode! Kevin not only looks great, he does a great job. I also have a few Iolaus and Hercules shots.

• Armaggedon Now, Part I and Armaggedon Now, Part II -- Another excellent episode. It was certainly fun and a definite nail biter.

• Stranger in a Strange World -- This is a terrific episode!

• The End of the Beginning -- You could say this is "early" Ares.

  
  

• The Meeting -- Kevin stars in this short film at lessfilm -- The home of New Zealand Short Film.

• Lawless (Official Site) -- A series of New Zealand telefeatures about undercover cop John Lawless (Smithy).

• F/X: Vigilantes -- Kevin played -- surprise, surprise -- a bad guy in this show. A very well dressed, sexy bad guy.

• Desperate Remedies -- Here are some pictures of Kevin as a completely different character, Lawrence Hayes.

  Personal Information

  
  

  Kevin was born 16 March 1963 in New Zealand and died 15 February 2002 in Beijing China. He is survived by his parents, his wife Susie, and three sons. Oscar is the oldest, then Tyrone, and lastly, baby Willard Halstead, who was born on Monday, October 6, 1997, at 1:15am (NZ time). He weighed in at 8 pound 3oz.
