The 4th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

By now you probably know the results of the SAGs, but boy, was it surprising or what? If the Oscars really pull a stunt like this come March 23, it will be SO entertaining!

In many ways, I think the SAGs are marvellous for the actors and actually mean more than the Oscars since there's less politics and its entirely based on your peers choosing, so hoorah to the winners.

In case you missed it, some of the winners were:

Awkward moment of the night part 1 = poor Minnie Driver; for her nomination for Best Supporting Actress, they showed the clip where Skylar pleads with Will (the "tell me you don't love me" speech, which is heartwrenching, the way she plays it) and one can only imagine how their real life break up must have occurred.

Awkward moment of the night part 2 = when the cast of ER went up to accept their award, Alex Kingston was there as well, but whoa! Ralph Fiennes was sitting in the front row right in front of where she was standing.

Best presenter of the night: tie - Christine Lahti repeated her toilet joke to great effect, and Sigourney Weaver took the opportunity to make fun of James Cameron when she was introducing the cast of Titanic for Best Ensemble nomination

Most inexplicable presenter choice of the night = Richard Gere AND Faye Dunaway (??) for best ensemble award (???). These two are very guilty of acting in non-ensemble mode all the time (one doesn't act whilst the other acts with herself only), and who paired them up together anyway?

Most gracious presenter of the night = Geoffrey Rush: his introduction to the best actress film award was so gracious and elegant that he made every single one of the nominees feel like winners.

Most visibly disappointed loser of the night = Peter Fonda for Ulee's Gold. Can't blame him cos he was very good, but so was Nicholson.

Best family member of the night = Jane Fonda who cheered and whooped and behaved very ra ra every time her brother was mentioned or on stage.

One hopes that this level of surprise descends on us come March 23. If only Helena or Helen, Julianne or Greg came close to winning then, the Oscars would not be such a waste of time after all.
