How I Became
a Deanna Durbin Fan
I first became a f an of Deanna Durbin in early 1997,
when I saw three of her movies (Can't Help Singing, One Hundred Men
and a Girl and Three Smart Girls) on the cable station American
Movie Classics (AMC). I had heard of Deanna before that, since I
have been a classic movie fan since childhood, but had never had the chance
to see any of her films. I was pleasantly surprised with how natural
and refreshing she was before the cameras, and of course with her beautiful
voice. I wanted to see more...and so I bought all of her films available
on home video! I loved all of them and soon started buying whatever
records, cassette tapes and compact discs were available in my area.
I now have a burgeoning collection of Deanna-related memorabilia, though
I'd like to add more!
The Creation
of "The Deanna Durbin Page"
I first signed on-line in December of 1996. I
was surprised that there were hardly any websites about this remarkable
woman and so, with a little encouragement and help from some Internet friends,
decided to create this on-line tribute. At first, I had no idea what
I was doing, which showed with the early design layout of the pages, however
it has since evolved into the largest Deanna Durbin site on the Internet.
I have put lots of time and effort into it and hope to continue with it
for a long time.
Copyright
One problem with Internet websites is the issue of copyright.
Copyright laws are rather difficult to understand, and, because of this
fact, no one really seems to want to become involved with them so
it is a very complicated matter to try and figure out what photos, etc.
are under copyright and which ones are not. Most fan magazines have
had their copyrights lapse, since the magazines have been out of business
for many years. Therefore, I have no idea which photos on this page
are under copyright and which are not. If you decide to use anything
on this page, you do so at your own risk. I have tried my best to
make everything on this page my own, but I cannot say that there isn't
any plagarism, etc. on this website. All information presented on
this website is believed to be true. Any opinions expressed within
this website are my own. All video, record, tape and compact disc
sleeves are copyrighted by their owner, and are presented here solely for
informational purposes. The webmaster of "The Deanna Durbin Page"
is not selling any of the items featured on this website. All photos
not scanned by the webmaster are credited to the person or persons who
did so.
The
Mission of "The Deanna Durbin Page"
First of all, I would like to say that this website
is not approved by Deanna Durbin David, her family, or by any organization
which employed or is associated with her. Deanna Durbin David has
been retired from show business and a life in the public eye for more than
45 years. She prefers, and deserves, a life of privacy. "The
Deanna Durbin Page" respects her right to do so. Unlike other websites,
"The Deanna Durbin Page" is not focused on her personal life as the main
point of interest. Any biographical information presented on "The Deanna Durbin Page" is here merely to serve as background information for those who are not familiar with her. Instead, this website is a celebration of her career in show business. In
my opinion, the life of Deanna Durbin merely serves as a backdrop to the
art she has produced. After all, only a few lucky people have the
privilege of actually knowing her. The rest of us (her devoted fans)
only "know" her through her films and music, to which this site is dedicated.
"The Deanna Durbin Page" was constructed in order to tell others about
the happiness she has brought me (the webmaster) as well as her other fans
who have lent their talents to this website. "The Deanna Durbin Page"
is not associated with ANY website which may present information that can
be construed as negative or hurtful towards Miss Durbin. After all,
in twelve short years Deanna has given us so much of her talent for us
to enjoy - enough to last each of her fans a lifetime. The least
we can do is respect her wishes and let her live her life as she chooses.
Thanks
I would like to use this space to thank the people who have helped me significantly with this website. I'm sorry I cannot name everyone, but a list such as that would take me forever to type! I would like to thank Jim Johnson (for his help with design and lay-out, for creating the wonderful background image seen on these pages, and for his help in finding information about Deanna Durbin), Rita Piro (for sending me all those fantastic vintage fan magazines and clippings at no charge), John Parascandola (for helping me with information about DD collectibles and for giving me information about the films I haven't seen yet), Darlene Harris (for her knowledge about DD collectibles, for scanning so many pictures for me to use on this site and for chatting with me on those days when I wasn't motivated to work on the site) and also to D'Arcy D. (my personal consultant, for allowing me to annoy him incessantly at work and at home for the past year, for his advice on practically everything, and also for personally consulting me in general). Thank you also to everyone else who has helped me in one way or another with these pages!
