The film is a sweeping epic, and sweeping epics are my favorite genre of movies. Titanic captures the spirt of the old love story, and captures us with the story of two lovers who met upon the grandest ship in the world. Rose, a first class maiden, is saved from a dismal marriage and from commiting suicide by 3rd class Jack. You get in touch with their unbelievable romance, fall in love with their love, and then...the boat sinks. Will their love be able to conquer even the mighty Titanic? Watch the movie and see.
Heh, the story sounds a bit cardboardish and corny when you put it all together. And don't worry, there are a lot of dramatic and winsome lines and scenes in it that some will probably cringe at. But that's not the point. While you look at this you realize that you actually want to love like this. This is grade A not true to life movie romance here, yet somehow you still believe love can happen this way. This is the beauty of this type of movie, it gets you involved because inside you feel that you could risk your life on the ship for your love. So for all those reviews that say "The love between Jack and Rose is corny, blah blah blah", they can all stuff it. Every movie can't be ultra true to life. Some movies should be great , fantastic fantasies, and this is what Titanic is , to the highest degree. The set designs are superb, the cinematography is superb, the CGI ( Most people wont even notice. I love the little computer animated people) is beyond belief, and James Horner's score(where is his Oscar?)is great as usual. The RMS Titanic was the grandest ship built to date and the JC Titanic is the grandest movie in scope and size built to date.
In conclusion, I already know that everyone will love Titanic, barring a few block headed individuals. I already know that Cameron will get the attention that he deserves. The only thing I don't know is if it will cost 500 million for someone else to get theirs?
