RATING

To start off I will admit I am biased in my review of this film as I am a huge fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, but putting that aside I must say that out of all the movies I have seen in my time, Romeo and Juliet rates as number one!

Romeo is portrayed by the talented, award winning star Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliet by the gorgeous rising young star Claire Danes. The overall acting by these two extremely talented young actors is brilliant and one of the best things about this movie.

At the beginning the audience is introduced to Verona Beach which thrives on hatred and violence. Right from the strt we see the absolute hatred between the two families of the Montagues and the Capulets with the fueding between the Montague Boys and the Capulet Boys which sets up the scene for the rest of the story.

If you don't know how the famous story goes, the star crossed lovers meet during a ball held at the Capulet mansion and it's love at first sight for the both of them which is portrayed wonderfully. After getting over the fact that their two families are mortal enemies, they decide to secretly marry.

Mercutio (Romeos best friend) and Romeo have a very violent encouter with Tybalt (Juliets cousin) which inturn arises the death of both Mercurio by Tybalts hand and the death of Tybalt as revenge by Romeos hand - this seems to be the beginning of the end for the two lovers.

After the first and only love scene between the two, Romeo is Banished to Mantua and Juliet has been arranged to marry Paris but to remedy this situation she takes a 24 hour poison so she appears dead. Now Roemo never hears news of this and assumes his love is dead so he acquires an instant death poison and goes to Juliets death bed to die with her. Juliet awakes but a little too late to find Romeo dying. To make an extremely heart-felt, tear-jerking ending to the movie she kills herself to underline the serious undertones of the story.

This movie brings many emotions of hatred, fear, humour, joy, love at first sight and of course death. It's full of romance, action, violence and tears to appeal to all, and all this accompanied with a sensational album, makes an allround amazing film that I encourage everyone to see at least once.
