1995

Events from the past cause Viki's psyche to shatter. (January 1995 - January 1996)
Viki Lord Carpenter had been through a rough year. She had suffered the torment of enduring her father's murder trial and weathered the humiliation of Dorian dragging Victor Lord's name through the mud. Then, she'd shrugged off the knowledge that Joey and Dorian were having an affair. Shortly after the New Year, Sloan succomed to Hodgkin's disease and Viki was left alone and depressed. Then one day, Dorian appeared on her doorstep with shocking news: David was not Viki's brother after all - instead, he and Tina had been covering up all along, waiting for the day when he would snatch up a $27.8 million trust fund that had originally been intended for Victor's son.

In a rage, Viki raced over the carraige house and tore the place apart. It wasn't long before she found exactly what she feared: a legal paper that awaited David's signature: a paper that entitled him to the inheritance money. Nearing a nervous breakdown, Viki waited for David's return. When he did, she confronted him with the awful truth and, mustering up some tears and regret, David confessed to everything, asking for her forgiveness and blaming the whole thing on Dorian. He also tried to cover up for Tina, but Viki told him she knew everything already - it would do no good to lie. Tina burst in, shocked to see her sister and David. When she saw Viki crying, she tried to formulate and excuse, but David said quietly, "She knows everything, Tina." A nasty fight ensued and a hysterical Viki rushed out of the house as snowflakes began to fall. Knowing the police would be there any moment, Tina and David hurriedly began to pack, agreeing to meet in Spain the soonest chance she got to get away.

Meanwhile, in tears, Viki's car skids off the road and into a ditch. Shaken and confused, she finds her way through the woods to Dorian's house, where Dorian is preparing to leave the country as well. When Viki threatens to call the police, Dorian launches into a tirade about how evil Victor Lord really was. Viki tries to ignore her but, bit by bid, the words pierced her mind ... "Your father was a degenerate pig ... he seduced you ... his own daughter !" Viki pleaded with Dorian to stop, to no avail as Dorian ordered her long-time nemesis out of the house. Then, Viki snapped. The first personality to emerge was Tommy. As Dorian headed upstairs to pack for her escape from the country, Tommy screamed out "Stop, you stupid ugly bitch!" With a tremendous shove, Tommy/Viki sent Dorian headlong down the staircase, knocking her unconscious. Viki snapped again, this time into Jean Randolph who, calm and collectedly, heaved Dorian's body into the trunk of her car, threw her luggage into the backseat and rented a room in Atlantic City. [January 1995]

Viki stayed in Atlantic City a week, tying up the loose ends of Dorian's whereabouts. She planted Dorian's car in the airport parking lot and made it appear that she'd skipped town, as everyone had expected her to do. She also moved Dorian from the car to the cabin on Llantano Mountain, where she kept her chained to a post. Then, as the ostensibly new, calm and collected Viki, Jean Randolph returned to Llanview, where terrified family members asked where she'd been - she told them she'd wandered around the woods in confusion after the accident and had been recuperating at Dorian's house - but that Dorian had later skipped the country. The family bought this story, though were a little confused by her revamped attitude (and her new stylish hairdo). Viki called in a contractor and had the secret-room beneath Llanfair reconstructed. This was where she kept Dorian for the rest of her stay - behind a soundproof sheet of Plexi-glass.

Dorian came to and demanded out, while on the surface, Joey was reeling from Dorian's "abandonment," and Cassie was suspicious that something was not quite right. Viki emerged for a split second with Renee on Valentine's Day, but quickly slipped back into Jean upon discovering an old doll from her childhood. People began asking questions about Viki's odd behavior, but apart from minor slip-ups (i.e. Jean's aversion to hugging and Niki's wild fashion taste), Jean managed to quell their fears. Then she came up with her master plan: she would allow Dorian to leave, only if she promised to break up with Joey and marry David Vickers, who had returned to town to be with Tina. To ensure her cooperation, Viki lorded the famous forged diary over her head, threatening to turn it in to the police if Dorian told anyone the truth about her whereabouts. Dorian went through with the plan, marrying David and saying goodbye to Joey. [March 1995]

As time passed, people began to ask questions again. Jean was getting nervous and began slipping up. In another confrontation with Dorian, Jean lost control to another alter, Tori, who wanted to destroy everything that Victor Lord had built. While Llanfair was empty for Bo and Nora's wedding, Tori set fire to the mansion, without realizing that Jessica was in her bedroom. With Llanfair burning, Tori made her escape only to hear Jessica calling her from the bedroom window. Hearing her child's voice, Viki emerged once more and saved Jessica from the burning flames, collapsing in the process. [June 1995]

When she awoke, Dorian, scared that Viki's emergence could present difficulties, paid her a visit in the hospital and, screaming about Victor's past atrocities, forced Jean to reemerge to protect Victoria. But by now, Viki's psyche was far too unstable - in the period of several days, she switched between all of her alters. Tori traded the diary with Dorian (David eventually got hold of it) and later, in a confrontation with her kids at the mansion, Tori told them all about Victor's evil deeds. Finally realizing his mother was sick (!), Kevin went to call a doctor, and Viki smashed a vase over his head. She then ran to the Banner building, which she threatened to burn. Waking up, Kevin alerted the cops and Clint and they surrounded the building. Pleading with Tori to let Viki emerge, Tori took Clint hostage at gunpoint, brought him to the Lord mausoleum and nearly killed him. Only when Dorian arrived, did she stop. Tori/Viki went on the run again, and was eventually captured and brought to a local jailhouse, where Clint and Kevin finally caught up with her. [July 1995]

Viki entered therapy in the summer and spent much of the time away from her family, being counseled by Nora's psychiatrist sister Susannah Hanen (Maureen Anderman). It eventually was revealed that one more alter existed - this one, the image of Victor Lord, who wanted Viki destroyed. She attempted suicide out of despair and then learned the horrifying whole truth. It had been she, Viki, who had smothered the life out of her father two decades previously. Horrified, she committed herself to a mental hospital, and tearfully told her family the truth. Because of the extenuating circumstances surrounding the murder, Viki was not put on trial for it, instead she was called to a hearing, where she would learn her fate: possibly to be commited to a mental hospital for the rest of her life. Instead, Nora delivered a stunning defense, highlighted by an emotional plea from Viki herself and Judge Fitzwater declared her fit to return home. [January 1996]

Blair and Todd's tumultuous romance. (January 1995 - November 1995)
Blair and Todd first made love on Christmas Eve 1994. They began the new year in a state of confusion, as Blair still continued to date Cord. However, when Cord continued finding excuses to spend time with Tina, Blair jealousy rose up and caused her to break off her relationship with him. It was about that time that Blair realized Todd was the real Lord heir (not David Vickers). Before Todd even knew himself, Blair cooked up a scheme to win the $27.8 million inheritance for herself. Using a ploy she'd already used on Asa, Blair told Todd she was pregnant with his child, but that she was going to let Cord believe it was his, because she didn't want to bother Todd with it. Todd, having a sudden attack of humanity, told her not to - that he wanted to be the father to the child in whatever way he could. In a way, Todd wanted to prevent the same thing from happening to this child as happened to him in his childhood (Namely that Peter Manning had been a self- righteous bastard)

Blair agreed "hesitantly," and Todd proposed they get married to make it official. Flying down to the Caribbean, the two wed on the beach and returned to Llanview married, shocking everyone. Not long after, Todd realized that he was the real Lord heir and that he was the one entitled to $27.8 million. He initially refused to accept the money, afraid it would taint him, just as it had tainted Victor Lord. But Blair eventually convinced him to accept the money and let everyone know that Todd Manning was actually Todd Lord.

Todd wasted no time in learning about his new-found family. In a confrontation with Viki/Jean, he learned that Victor was not the family man everyone picutred him to be. Todd made a comment about Victor being a sick man and Viki/Jean turned into Viki/Niki. Todd, in a bizarre decision, decided to purchase Dorian's newspaper, The Intruder and turned it into The Sun. Meanwhile, Tina was outraged that "her David" had been ousted by Todd Manning. She tried her best to convince Todd that Blair had known all along about the inheritance money, and that their "child" was just a ploy to get him to marry her. Todd demanded Blair take a home pregnancy test. She did - and the result was positive. Blair had gotten pregnant in the time since they were married.

But her plan came to a crashing end when her car stalled in Angel Square and, waiting for a tow truck, Blair was attacked by Javier and Luis. The attack caused a miscarriage and Todd later learned that Blair had only been three months into her pregnancy - not five. A furious Todd went wild - nearly raping Blair, until she reminded him of Marty and he forced himself to stop. Blair and Todd had hit a serious obstacle, and while Todd filed for divorce, Blair did her best to get control of her company Melador.

Blair and Todd did make up eventually, though it took a great time. Blair continued to blame Marty for making Todd feel guilty about the rape, but she was more honest to Todd the second time around, and she confided in him often. She became pregnant again and Todd helped Blair and Dorian get control of the famous forged diary that David was holding over Dorian's head.

They were married again in November 1995 and shared one last dance in a shower of golden balloons. Then, before they went on their honeymoon, Todd received a frantic plea to bring Marty home from where she was vacationing in Ireland, because a little AIDS patient, Paloma, was dying and was calling for Marty to be there. Todd went to Ireland, sent Marty back home and tried to help her friend Patrick out of a jam. In the end, Todd was mistaken for Patrick and was shot, placed in a car, and driven off a cliff. Somehow, he survived the initial crash. The last we saw of him, Todd was lying on an Irish beach, opening his eyes...

Two long-overdue marriages.
In 1995, two couples were married in long-overdue ceremonies. The first to march down the aisle were Hank Gannon and Sheila Price, on Valentine's Day. The day of the ceremony, RJ told Hank that he and Nora had slept together during Hank and Nora's marriage. A furious Hank refused to let RJ's news stop the wedding. Later, he and Nora made up.

The second couple to tie the knot was Nora Hanen Gannon and Bo Buchanan, in June 1995. Afraid RJ would pull the same trick and tell Bo about their affair, Nora told him beforehand. When RJ did attempt to tell Bo, they just laughed it off. Their marriage was highlighted by the appearance of Little Richard, who turned the drab ceremony into a rock-n-roll lover's dream. Bo and Nora danced down the isle and were married. Their reception at Serenity Springs was highlighted by the arrival of Nora's sister Susannah Hanen.

Max and Luna ... Frank and Leslie are born (May 1995)
Max and Luna's little "sweet peas" were born in early May. Luna, reading the tarot cards, had insisted that they be born at the Mountain Sunset Inn, but quickly rethought that plan when a brutal summer storm cut them off from civilization. When Luna went into labor, Max had no choice but to deliver the babies himself. Thus, little Frank and Leslie Holden entered the world. Unfortunately for the little children, their mother was not long for this world...

Angel Square (May 1995 - November 1995)
Angel Square was first seen when Blair was attacked by gangsters Javier and Luis on the docks, causing her to miscarry. Young Cristian Vega (Yorlin Madera) was the only one to witness the attack. He was at first suspected of being one of the thugs, but Blair later cleared his name. Cristian met Jessica Buchanan at a dance party in Angel Square. They hit it off at first glance, and Cristian was stunned to realize that she was the same Jessica Buchanan who lived in the mansion on the hill. At the same time, Dylan and Marty decided to reopen the community center which had fallen into disrepair over the past months. It was a fight from the beginning, but gang violence was running rampant on the docks, and the community center was a frequent hide-out for gang members. Alex Buchanan, feeling restless as Asa's wife, decided to turn Angel Square from the ghettos into a thriving metropolis by buying up property which she hoped to turn into an Arts Center. Asa later tried to dissuede her from doing so, but she refused to listen and scared the residents of Angel Square by threatening that the city would claim "eminent domain," and buy up their neighborhood. Asa was furious and Alex had no choice but to stop her plans or risk divorce.

Cristian was the son of Dorian's maid Carlotta (Patricia Mauceri), who now entered the scene as a woman who wanted the best for her son, but who could not get over her disappointment for her other son, Antonio (Kamar de los Reyes), who was in jail for killing another man in self-defense. Antonio had been a member of the Prides and when his father discovered the fact, he had a heart attack and died. Clint and Carlotta met often as Jessica continued to visit Cristian in Angel Square. While Viki was away in therapy, Clint and Carlotta got especially close.

Marty began worrying about Dylan after several break-ins and threats of violence accompanied the opening of the community center. Dylan refused to quit and went so far as to move into the community center, infuriating the local gangs, the Prides and the Arrows, who were gearing up for an all-out gang war. Cristian's friend Mickey tried to convince him to join the Prides; he accepted a gun from Mickey, but was afraid to use it. At the same time, Antonio Vega was realased from jail by Bo, who was worried about the recent theft of guns from the police impound and who needed a "gopher" in Angel Square to root out the culprit. Therefore, he released Antonio into the custody of Officer Andy Harrison. Andy and Antonio weren't friends at first: he had a strong distrust of the "5-0" and wasn't sure that Andy (a chick) could handle her job. Antonio ran into a stunned and excited Cristian on the docks and discovered that Cristian w as carrying a gun - he took the weapon from his brother and told him never, ever, to get involved with gangs, because it destroyed lives. Little did Antonio know how right he was ...

At that moment, gang member Luis was planning to take out Dylan at the community center and reclaim the building for the Arrows. Luis lured Dylan alone (he thought) to the center and pulled a gun. Dylan tried to talk his way out of it, but Luis told Dylan he was going to "waste" him. An instant before Luis pulled the trigger, Dylan's sister, Luna Holden walked into the room. She was going to give Dylan one of her new-age crystals to protect him. Luis, mistaking Luna for a plainclothes cop, shot her in the stomach and she dropped to the floor. Antonio burst into the room and told Luis to drop the gun. When Luis made no move to do so, Antonio fired and killed him. The police converged on the scene...

Luna Moody Holden died several days later in the hospital, with her husband Max, stepson Al, and children Frankie and Leslie by her side. Dylan vowed to finish the work he had done in the community center, while Marty couldn't take the stress anymore and left Dylan for her trip to Ireland. A full-scale gang war erupted. In a confrontation with another gangster, Ice, Andy Harrison shot him in self-defense. Little did she know that it would turn into a nightmare... Since there were no credible witnesses to the shooting, Andy was accused of murder. Furthermore, her dirty partner Nick Manzo (who had been the cop that was selling guns from the impound to make ends meet), set it up to look like Andy was the gun-seller. This ignited fires everywhere: between friends Bo and Hank, between the Andy and Llanview ... Andy went on trial and was found guilty, while Antonio stood by her side the entire time (straying only once to sleep with Javier's ex, Linda, who he hoped could provide helpful evidence).

Bo eventually got Nick to admit to selling the guns and Andy was freed to pursue her relationship with Antonio. Cristian and Jessica turned up the heat in their relationship, as did Clint and Carlotta. Angel Square suddenly ceased to be a problem and turned into a peaceful section of town. Carlotta eventually forgave Antonio for his past misdeeds, and the Vegas became a real family again. Dylan continued to work in the community center, waiting for Marty's return from Ireland.

Rachel's Drug Abuse (April 1995 - January 1996)
Rachel (now played by Mari Morrow), began her long road to drug dependency when she woke up late for an exam in law school one morning. She asked a fellow student how he managed to stay up, and he gave her caffeine pills, which she readily took. The caffeine soon lost its effect however, and Rachel turned to prescription drugs. She went so far as to write a fake prescription for herself from the pad on boyfriend Ben Price's desk. Ben later found out and confronted Rachel - she conceded that she'd done it, but promised it would never happen again.

Rachel's problem was that she always felt inferior compared to her father, Hank, the DA; her super-lawyer mother Nora and her Aunt Susannah, the psychiatrist. Rachel continued taking drugs because she honestly thought it would help her. Unfortunately, things only got worse. She failed yet another law exam and decided to leave law school for awhile. She promised Ben she would stop taking drugs, but he found out she was lying and told his sister Sheila about the problem. Sheila agreed to keep it quiet for the present from Hank and Nora. But Rachel never kicked the habit and it led to her break-up with Ben, who later accepted a fellowship in London. Rachel graduated to illegal drags, with Javier as her main supplier. Rachel and Javier occasionally engaged in drug-induced sex, but even he realized her problem before long and told his boss, Rachel's uncle RJ. RJ couldn't look the other way, because he cared too much about his neice. When Rachel nearly overdosed on heroin, he told Hank and Nora and pleaded with them to intervene. They did so, and Rachel was shipped off to rehabilitation at St. Anne's. Hank, Nora and RJ began to repair their broken trusts.
