Marty, Patrick and the Men of 21 ... Poseiden ... Carlo Hesser's
return (October 1995 - March 1996)
After Todd, posing as Patrick Thornhart, was shot and killed in Ireland,
action exploded everywhere for Marty Saybrooke. Fearing for her life,
she left on the next plane for Llanview, where she was certain her life
could once again be peaceful and safe. She was wrong.
Dylan was overjoyed to see Marty return and pleaded with her for a
second chance. Marty, still reeling from her encounter with Patrick,
now threw caution to the wind, saw how much Dylan loved her, remembered
how wonderful he'd been to her and agreed. Later when Dylan proposed,
she happily accepted, hoping to settle down to a quiet (albeit boring)
life with Dylan Moody. However, not long after, Marty was stunned to
learn Patrick had followed her back to Llanview. Patrick, fearing that
the terrorist group "Men of 21" was after both himself and his lovely
"Margaret," wanted desperately to protect her. Patrick recalled only
too well how the Men of 21 had killed his lover Siobhan and feared the
same fate awaited Marty. Yet, he also realized he couldn't get too
close to her, for it would endanger her further. So, when Marty and
Patrick met again, he kept up the facade that their relationship in
Ireland meant nothing to him. At first, Marty refused to believe that
their interlude was just meaningless sex but eventually Patrick
succeeded in driving her away from him.
Patrick confided only in a fellow Llanview-newcomer, Andrew's cousin
Maggie Carpenter (Crystal Chappell). Maggie agreed to drive Patrick to
Washington in hopes that Patrick could find the support he needed to
undermine the Men of 21. However, an attempt was made on Patrick's life
and the two returned, breathless to Llanview. Meanwhile, Marty was
agonizing over whether to tell Dylan about her involvement with Patrick.
Eventually, Andy convinced her to tell Dylan the truth. While Dylan was
at first hurt and angry, he later forgave Marty and told her how much he
looked forward to being her husband.
About this time, Chief Inspector Bass (Victor Slezak) of the Ireland
security bureau arrived in Llanview, hot on Patrick's trail. Enlisting
Bo's help, Bass tried to convince him that Patrick was a wanted man,
responsible for many murders, among them, that of Todd Manning. Bo, in
fact, believed Bass and had Patrick put in prison. Patrick's stay was
not long, however, as he escaped by posing as a drunk Santa Claus on
Christmas Eve. Breaking into Bass's hotel room, Patrick discovered a
medal embossed with the number "21". Turning himself back over to the
police, Patrick showed Bo the medal and told him the story. Though Bo
at first didn't believe him, there was something about Bass that Bo
didn't trust. While Bass hurriedly began plans for extraditing Patrick
back to Ireland, Bo tried to stall the process and even moved Patrick up
to the Buchanan cabin on Llantano Mountain. He then called Marty over
and told the two to go over everything that had happened in Ireland.
Alone at the cabin, Patrick tried to convince Marty that he truly loved
her - that he'd only lied to protect her. Marty, afraid to let her
feelings for Patrick resurface, ran from the cabin in tears. Later, in
an emotional confrontation with Patrick, Marty said she was going to go
ahead with her plans to marry Dylan, because she was grateful to him for
getting her through the aftermath of the rape.
While Marty and Patrick were dealing with one aspect of the "Men of 21"
case, another angle surfaced, this one involving Asa and Alex. Asa
began a series of mysterious communications with a foreign businessman
who identified himself only as "Poseiden." Alex, fearing that her
husband was up to something, did her darndest to discover Poseiden's
identity. Eventually, Poseiden himself contacted Alex, luring her to a
hotel room where he promised to reveal himself. Alex, armed with a gun,
arrived only to find a single rose. On another occasion, she was
drugged and awoke to find herself tattooed with a rose ...
Meanwhile, the date of Marty and Dylan's marriage was fast approaching.
Though Patrick tried to convince her of his love, she refused to give in
to her feelings, seeking safety with Dylan. However, safety was not in
the cards. Blair, now the Window Manning and mother of Todd's baby
Starr, resolved to destroy Marty's happiness, first by attempting to
press a wrongful death lawsuit on she and Patrick and, when that failed,
by turning suddenly warm to Patrick, making Marty's blood boil.
Patrick and Bo united to undo the mysterious Men of 21; Bo, by dying his
hair blond, wearing blue contact lenses and feigning a husky voice,
switched places with a lethal explosives expert whom Inspector Bass
hired for a special assignment... Unaware that Bo was beneath the
disguise, Bass ordered him to plant a bomb in the air shaft at the
Palace Hotel and to set a timer to detonate it. Though Bo originally
tried to fix the bomb so there was no chance of it exploding, things did
not go as planned ...
Bass and Patrick clashed in an abandoned warehouse the same night of
Marty's wedding rehearsal. Bass shot Patrick in the stomach but Patrick
managed to escape, stumbling across town (!) to Marty's house.
Horrified, Marty took Patrick to her attic where she attempted to nurse
him back to health, despite his hallucinations and mumblings of "Angel."
In the meantime, Asa entered into a lucrative, $30 million business deal
with Poseiden and Lord Cove, a wealthy British businessman. The three
planned to meet one night, face-to-face, at the Palace Hotel. The same
night, Llanview gathered for Marty and Dylan's pre-wedding dinner...
Renee, on her way in to the party, received a telephone call from one of
her former "girls," asking her to attend to an emergency. Hurriedly,
Renee left the hotel.
Upstairs, Asa and Lord Cove eagerly awaited Poseiden's arrival with a
briefcase full of money. But Poseiden never showed ... instead armed
men burst into the room, one of them knocking Asa over the head,
rendering him unconscious, before making off with the $30 million.
Mayhem erupted everywhere while Marty, Dylan and their friends were
completely unaware of what fate awaited them. Patrick, aware of the
danger, stumbled from Marty's attic, still in serious pain from the
gunshot wound and hurried to the Palace Hotel. Once there, however, it
became clear that Bass was finally onto Bo's scheme. Trapping Bo and
Patrick, he set the bomb to detonate and then handcuffed them to a pipe,
leaving them to die with everyone else. Racing against the clock, they
managed to free themselves and crawled through the air shaft in a
desperate attempt to disarm the bomb. At the last possible moment, they
succeeded.
Meanwhile, as events began to calm down at the Palace Hotel, over on the
other side of town, at the Buchanan mansion, Alex became aware that
someone was in the house. In a stunning moment, she came face-to-face
with her beloved, thought-deceased ex-husband Carlo Hesser who, smiling
mischeivously, mumbled: "The reports of my death have been greatly
exaggerated."
The Dylan-Marty-Patrick-Blair summer of misery (March 1996 - August
1996)
The Men of 21 adventure wound to a close ... Inspector Bass, attempting
to leave the country, was found dead. Asa recovered only to discover
his $30 million was missing. Marty continued with her plans to marry
Dylan, despite Patrick's heroics and professed love. Carlo revealed
himself to all of Llanview at the Country Club, promising he was a
changed man and explaining that he'd never really be shot - the bullets
in the gun fired by Stephanie Hobart had been blanks and a body had been
switched for his at the morgue.
As the dust settled, everyone gathered at St. James on a snowy winter
day for Marty and Dylan's wedding. With time running out, Patrick rode
up to the church on horseback and burst into Marty's dressing room,
begging her to run away with him. "I know of a place," he told her. "In
County Kildare ... where the nights are so crisp and so clear you can
almost touch them ..." He pledged to build her a house there, "with
roses tangled thick over the red front door" ... he imagined Marty
holding their first child - "My God, she looks just like you," he
murmured. "But she will grow up loved like no other ... as you, are
loved Margaret ... When it comes time for you to say 'I do," said
Patrick, "The Margaret I know will not be able to say those words - not
to any living man but me." In tears, Marty left the room.
Blair arrived at the church as well and watched from the foyer as Marty
marched down the aisle, stood by Dylan at the altar and when asked "Do
you take this man...?", after a brief hesitation, whispered, "I do ...
with all my heart." A tear slipped from Patrick's eye as he watched
Marty and Dylan wed ... turning, he ran into Blair and the two rode off
on horseback together through the snow.
The story was far from over. With Carlo now in the public eye, Patrick
planned to prove Carlo and Poseiden were one and the same. Part of his
plan entailed sneaking aboard Carlo's yacht one night ... but when Marty
learned of her ex-lover's intentions, fearing for his life, she tried to
stop him. An angry and bitter Patrick told her to leave him alone. But
she refused to do so, and snuck aboard Patrick's boat. As he headed
toward Carlo's yacht, which was moored in the harbor, the boat suddenly
sprung a convenient leak. Terrified of water, Marty revealed herself.
Patrick was initially furious but realized there was no time to lose and
convinced her to jump overboard and swim to shore.
Collapsing on a deserted beach, Patrick carried his weary love to an
abandoned cottage where he set her down on a bed and begged her to
awaken. Marty did, finally claiming Patrick to be "the man I love."
Overjoyed, the two wandered the beach for several hours before returning
to the cottage. However, trouble was coming in the form of a very
worried Dylan. When he barged in, ready to save Marty, he found his
wife in a romantic embrace with Patrick. A fight ensued between Dylan
and Patrick, in which Dylan slipped on a log and seriously injured his
back.
Back home in Llanview, Marty promised Patrick she would leave Dylan and
they planned to meet at sunset on Llantano Mountain. As always, things
did not go as planned. At the community center, a nasty fight erupted
between Marty and Dylan and Dylan threw his back out, rendering him
paralyzed from the waist down, as a result of his previous injury. From
the hospital, Marty tried to send word to Patrick that she could not
attend their meeting, but Blair intercepted the note first and went to
Patrick on the mountain.
Several months of misery followed, as no one was happy. Marty was torn
between her love for Patrick and her commitment to Dylan (after all, she
was partly responsible for his paralysis) and chose to remain for the
time being with her husband. Patrick was torn between his love for
Marty and the realization that she may never be his. Blair was torn
between her lingering love for Todd, her desire for revenge against
Marty and her developing attachment to Patrick. And Dylan was mired in
self-pity, refusing to believe that Marty truly loved him and exhorting
her on several occasions to go be with her Irish poet. Eventually it
took Viki to talk Dylan out of his depression and to convince him to
forgive Marty her transgressions.
Yet the summer plunged inexorably on with several unlikely coincidences
heightening the tension between the quartet, as on the Fourth of July
when Marty happened upon a scantily clad Blair and Patrick rolling
around on the floor of the Country Club cabana. Dylan discovered that
Marty had kept Patrick's book of poems as a momento and exploded, but
later forgave her. Patrick discovered Blair's lies from several months
earlier and exploded, but later forgave her. In the end, Patrick and
Blair gave into passion - Patrick, in an attempt to forget Marty once
and for all; and Blair, in an attempt to drown her sorrow over Todd's
death in a new relationship.
Gannon family woes (April 1996 - August 1996)
Rachel Gannon did not stay long in the drug rehabilitation program at
St. Anne's, but rather ran away after several weeks, throwing Hank and
Nora into a panic. Several months later, Jessica, on a field trip to
New York City, happened upon Rachel (Sandra P. Grant) in a bus station.
When Jessica later told Nora what her daughter had been wearing and how
she had looked, it became clear that Rachel was not living a "clean"
life.
Enlisting the help of Bo's newly-returned-son Drew (Victor Browne),
Nora, Hank and RJ raced to New York City in an attempt to locate the
missing girl. Drew was successful in doing so. Posing as a "customer,"
he visited a call-girl agency only to meet the new employee Rachel (or
"Roxy," as she called herself) Hiding his identity, Drew tried to
convince the troubled girl to return to her family. But when Rachel
learned who Drew really was (ie, her step-brother!), she tried to
escape. Enter the always-subtle Hank, who snaps a pair of handcuffs
around his daughter's wrists and orders her home to Llanview!
There were more problems awaiting Hank at home. Sheila discovered she
was pregnant and didn't take kindly to Hank's reaction of "Oh God, no!"
She feared her husband was not ready to commit to their marriage or to
their upcoming family. After she suffered a miscarriage shortly
thereafter, Sheila penned a "Dear Hank" note and left town to live with
her brother Ben in London. Several weeks later, Hank was served with
divorce papers.
Through the summer, Drew helped Rachel overcome her addiction. As a way
of capping her triumph over drugs, the family agreed to serve as guests
on a live talk-show hosted by Tad Martin of Pine Valley. The day of the
taping, however, Rachel overheard a troubling fight between her parents
and uncle RJ. It seemed that Nora and RJ had had an affair before she
was born. Though Rachel tried to keep the knowledge inside, it bubbled
out during the televised interview when she accused her parents of lying
to her. Later, she even hinted that RJ might be her father, not Hank.
Nora quickly denied the hint and chided her daughter for being so
doubtful.
Romance - Andy & Antonio, Cris & Jessica, Kelly & Joey, Cassie &
Kevin...
Antonio Vega and Andy Harrison stepped up their romance in 1996. After
initial difficulties over their different ethnic backgrounds, the two
made love on Valentine's Day and embarked on a serious relationship.
Trouble was soon to come, however, in the formidable form of Carlo
Hesser.
Cristian Vega and Jessica Buchanan fell victim to the age-old problem of
teenage hormones. Cris was ready to take their relationship "all the
way," while Jessica doubted she was ready to take the big step.
Nonetheless, when their parents stumbled upon the two in the heat of
passion, Carlotta and Clint forbid their children to ever see each other
again. Of course, this was not to be.
Kelly's year did not start off well. When her oversexed "uncle" David
tried to make advances on her, she beaned him over the head with a lamp
and feared she had killed him. Somehow she managed to dump his body in
the woods and turned to Joey for comfort. When she took him back to the
spot where she'd laid David to rest she was stunned to discover the body
missing! Kelly began fearing her own sanity when David appeared alive
and well, and took her captive, hoping to grab a tidy little ransom sum
from Dorian. But the harmless plan turned dangerous when David
handcuffed Kelly to the bed of Dorian's yacht and left her there, while a
fire accidentally ignited in the same room. Luckily, Joey barged in and
saved the day. David was arrested, but later freed and left town with
that nosy vestry board member Elizabeth McNamara. Joey realized how much
he truly cared for Kelly and later, in Paris, they made love for the
first time.
Kevin Buchanan (Kevin Stapleton) returned from his assignment in London
only to be confronted with the juicy Carlo Hesser scandal and a
no-holds-barred competition with Cassie Carpenter to uncover the truth.
Cassie, who had accepted a job working for Blair at the SUN, stopped at
nothing to "out-scoop" Kevin. Along the way, however, their spirited
rivalry slowly turned into passionate tension. When Kevin made his
feelings for Cassie known, she pulled back, refusing to endanger her
marriage to Andrew.
The Carlo Hesser saga (April 1996 - October 1996)
Despite Carlo's claims to be a newly-reformed "Friend to Llanview," his
actions certainly didn't prove that way.
Carlo began his second reign of terror by uniting forces with fellow
Llanview criminal RJ Gannon. When he was unsuccessful in luring Alex
away from Asa, he decided to dispatch of his arch-enemy once and for
all. Problems began to befall Buchanan enterprises everywhere: an oil
tanker belonging to the company crashed off the coast of France, while an
oil rig in Texas mysteriously exploded. Asa was unable to handle the
stress so nephew Cord stepped in to take control of the company. In a
battle with Cord, Asa suffered yet another heart attack and was rushed to
the hospital. When he awoke, he didn't know who Alex, Clint and Bo were,
and began calling loyal servant Nigel his "Little Buckaroo"!
Satisfied that Asa was completely insane and Alex would shortly be his,
Carlo continued to harp on his desire for revenge against Viki. It will
be remembered that Viki (as her alternate personality, Niki), killed
Carlo's son Johnny some years prior (see History 1990). Now, Carlo
became obsessed with finding a worthy heir to the Hesser criminal
empire. He chose young Antonio Vega...
Antonio, of course, initially tried to escape Carlo's clutches but a
series of unfortunate problems caused him to reluctantly think twice.
First, Carlotta became concerned when the Diner went up for sale.
Fearing the loss of her job, Carlotta wanted desperately to purchase the
"CK Diner" but did not have the funds to do so. Antonio was unable to
procure the money either, thanks to his criminal record. However, Carlo
said he would be pleased to give Antonio the money, demanding no payback
whatsoever. Antonio initially refused but when he saw his mother's
despair, agreed to the arrangement. Later, when Cristian and Jessica
smashed up Joey's car in an illegal joyride, Antonio was again forced to
borrow from Carlo. Nora agreed to represent Antonio in court, in an
attempt to have Antonio's criminal record erased, but was unsuccessful.
Carlo stepped up his attempts to turn Antonio into his surrogate son.
When it became clear that there was not enough money for Carlotta to send
Cris to college, Carlo agreed to pay the tuition bill if Antonio agreed
to come work for him as his "right-hand man."
Antonio dreaded the consequences, but refused to see his little brother
deprived of an education and so agreed. Of course, this caused problems
for his budding relationship with Andy. Andy had been promoted to
Detective and had promised Bo to stay completely honest and loyal to the
police force, but she soon became certain that Antonio was working for
Carlo. Carlo used Andy as a way of ensuring Antonio's loyalty. Andy was
kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned warehouse. When Antonio saved
the day, he admitted his connections to Carlo and promised to do
everything in his power to disentangle himself for the crime kingpin,
while Andy found herself trapped between her love for Antonio and her
loyalty to the police force.
Meanwhile, Asa was not nearly as "loco" as everyone believed. He was, in
fact, faking insanity as a way of luring Carlo into a false sense of
security. His plan was to somehow regain the $30 million stolen from
hiim by Poseiden. He enlisted the help of Renee and later Max, who
agreed to scheme the money out of Carlo in exchange for a substantial
share of the take.
In the background, Max was being hounded by Maggie Carpenter. Despite
their initial distaste for each other and his all-consuming depression
over Luna's death, Max gradually began having romantic feelings toward
Maggie. It was then that she hit him with a bombshell: she was planning
on becoming a nun! Reeling from the news, Max tried to sever all ties
with Maggie, but she became concerned that his mysterious dealings with
Asa were dangerous and tried to uncover their scheme herself.
As all this was happening, Carlo enacted yet another revenge plot; this
one against Viki. Determined that she should suffer the same pain of
having a child murdered, Carlo blackmailed psychiatrist Elliott Durbin
(Stephen Macht) into working for him in exchange for paying off Elliott's
substantial gambling debts. The plan was for Elliott to gain Viki's
trust, work as her psychiatrist, hypnotize her and, over time, plant
seeds of anger within Viki regarding her oldest son Kevin. The outcome
would be that Viki would, through hypnotic suggestion, kill her own
son!
As the summer progressed, Alex found herself unable to live with the
"new" Asa, and had her husband committed to the Mountainview Clinic,
where Max and Maggie saved Asa from receiving shock therapy in the nick
of time. Enraged, Asa set his plan into motion ... Max doctored Carlo's
hot dog at a Fourth of July celebration with a poison that would cause
him to suffer a brief but violent attack of pain. Carlo indeed keeled
over and was hurried to the hospital. Next, Max manipulated Carlo's
records to show that he was afflicted by a rare but fatal blood
disorder. He also released a false press release to the papers stating
that the waters at Serenity Springs had been shown to have mysterious
curing powers. (!) Carlo, fearing he had little life left to live,
bought the story and told Max he was willing to pay many millions of
dollars for the water. Maggie, finally discovering what Max was up to,
managed to bribe some of the money out of Max, so she could donate it to
the school for the deaf.
When Bo began setting up a sting against Carlo, Andy grew nervous.
Fearing that Antonio would be implicated in the scandal, she stole a
police audiotape that contained a conversation bewteen Antonio and Carlo
before Bo listened to it. However, she didn't realize there had been a
second copy ... and that Bo had set her up to take the fall, as a way of
testing her loyalty to the police. He nearly fired Andy for her
dishonesty, but changed his mind when Antonio agreed to work for the
police undercover.
Carlo, believing he was dying, stepped up his desire to find an heir to
his empire. He continued to press Alex for a divorce and then made it
known that he wanted her to carry his child! Alex did go through with
the divorce, but discovered from her doctor that she was incapable of
having children. Alex hatched a hair-brained scheme to fake a pregnancy
by strapping a pillow to her stomach (!) and making arragements to adopt
another woman's child in nine months.
It was not long before Carlo discovered that, in fact, he wasn't dying of
a rare blood disorder and decided to turn the tables on Max and Maggie.
While they journeyed down to North Carolina to pick up Max's twins, Carlo
trapped the duo in a staged cave-in and then, watching from his penthouse
via a television camera planted in the cave (!), laughed at their
plight. Eventually, Andy, Antonio and Dylan (who began regaining back
the use of his legs) came to their rescue.
Meanwhile, Elliott found himself growing increasingly restless over his
plan to hypnotize Viki into killing her son. He began having feelings
for the woman and desperately wanted a way out from under Carlo's thumb.
At the same time, Dorian became attracted to the good doctor, but soon
uncovered his connection to Carlo.
As things began to unravel for Carlo Hesser, Asa made things worse by
barging in on Alex and Carlo's wedding ceremony. With glee, he revealed
himself to be completely sane and ripped off Alex's wedding gown to
reveal the cushy pillow that was fastened to her stomach.
Elliott eventually gave Viki the order to kill Kevin, but when it came
down to it, Viki was unable to do so (though she came close!) Elliott,
horrified at what he'd done, tried to leave town. He was stopped by a
bullett from one of Carlo's henchmen.
Feeling betrayed on all sides, Carlo began his final descent...
Camerolivia and the plot against Buchanan Enterprises (June 1996 -
January 1997)
Just when Joey and Kelly appeared to be blissfully happy and
problem-free, Joey went for a nightly jog through the woods and came
across a stunning young woman, bathing herself by the edge of a pond.
Entranced by her beauty, he returned time and again until one day he
introduced himself and learned that she was Olivia (no last name), and
lived in a small cottage on the property. Though Joey tried to forget
the young lady, he couldn't get his mind off her...
Cord, now heading Buchanan Enterprises, was searching for a new personal
assistant to manage his life. She came in the form of an attractive
young lady by the name of Cameron Wallace (Bridget White). Relating a
story of woe about her personal problems and business expertise, Cord
hired Cameron to work at BE. Of course, business was not the only thing
on his mind ... on-again-off-again-love-of-his-life Tina had left town
with the kids, so he was open to a possible relationship.
As it turned out, Olivia and Cameron Wallace were one and the same, and
she was working for Dorian, who wanted Camerolivia to infiltrate BE and
then engage in some corporate espionage, destroying the company from
within. Time and time again, Camerolivia was forced to play both her
roles, as Cord and Joey thought she was two different people.
Eventually, Cord began suspecting that Cameron was not the perfect
assistant he believed her to be and when he and Joey realized she had
been lying to both of them, they immediately suspected Dorian of being
behind the plot. Cord discovered that the woman had indeed been ruining
the company. But Kelly refused to listen as Cord and Joey accused her
Aunt Dorian of hiring the woman. Posing as the "real" Cameron Wallace,
Kelly was horrified to discover that Dorian was indeed behind
Camerolivia's scheme, though Dorian convinced her to hide the truth from
Joey.
Before Cord could have Camerolivia arrested, she skipped town. Asa and
Cord hired Max and Maggie to follow her down to the Carribbean, where
they would operate a sting to capture the con artist. Posing as wealthy,
naive siblings, Camerolivia had no sooner scammed Max than Cord and Asa
stepped in and captured her. On videotape, in exchange for her freedom,
the woman revealed her true name to be Olivia DeWitt and confessed that
Dorian had hired her to destroy Buchanan Enterprises. Kelly pleaded with
Asa and Cord not to send Dorian to prison. Considering the matter, Cord
agreed on one condition ... that Dorian pay Buchanan Enterprises fifteen
million dollars instead...
He's baaa...aaack... (August 1996 - November 1996)
As Patrick and Blair made love on the floor of the penthouse, a
mysterious man let himself into the apartment and happened upon the two
in the heat of passion. As the camera pans up, we see that it is none
other than Todd! Rather than barging in on the two, he raced off in rage
to the graveyard where he ran into none other than his sister Viki.
Viki was amazed that Todd had survived his injuries in Ireland and tried
to convince him to return to Blair. Seething, Todd refused and Viki
agreed to let him stay for the time being in the attic of Llanfair. One
day, babysitting baby Starr, she brought the little girl to meet her
father. Unnerved, Todd immediately formed a bond with his daughter.
One by one, the citizens of Llanview came to discover the truth about
Todd. After Todd kidnapped baby Starr and took her to the Lord family
cottage on Llantano Mountain, he ran into Marty. With Blair frantic at
home over her missing child, Todd returned the baby, keeping his identity
a secret and later ran into Patrick, who was equally stunned.
For the first month, Todd did little else but mope around Llanview,
hiding from Blair. In anger, he set fire to the set of A Midsummer
Night's Dream, the play that Patrick and Blair were planning on staging
in Angel Square. But eventually, he confronted his wife in the
penthouse. Blair was thunderstruck and collapsed in tears, furious that
he hadn't told her sooner that he was alive. But when the tears
subsided, she was left with the same love for Todd she'd always had.
But Todd was not nearly so happy. Refusing to forget his wife's
"infidelity" with Patrick, he continued to make her life miserable. He
reassumed his position as editor of the SUN and refused to sleep in the
same room with Blair. The last straw came when it was discovered that
Blair was pregnant ... obviously, the father had to be Patrick
Thornhart...
Yet another return from the "dead" (September 1996 - December
1996)
During the Rosh Hoshana dinner at Bo and Nora's, there was a knock at the
door. Answering it, Drew was horrified to discover his "momma" Becky Lee
(Mary Gordon Murray) standing on the doorstep. This was a problem,
because Drew had told Bo that Becky had died several years ago in
Nashville. Trying to keep his secret under wraps, Drew stowed his mother
away in a trashy motel, while she kept demanding that he get some money
from his father, so she could produce her latest single, "Heartache for
Breakfast."
Drew's secret didn't stay that way for long, when Bo and Becky Lee came
face-to-face at the Country Club. Bo was initially riled at his son for
lying but over time, his anger subsided.
Becky Lee did next-to-nothing during her short return to Llanview. When
Bo was shot (see below), Nora paid Becky the money she wanted and told
her to leave town, which she did with pleasure.
Carlo's murder (November 1996 - January 1997)
With everyone in Llanview furious in some way at Carlo, it was only a
matter of time before that anger boiled over and turned into action.
Todd and Carlo had several heated confrontations (after all, Carlo, as
Poseiden, was responsible for Todd's shooting in Ireland) Bo, Marty and
Patrick uncovered the truth about the Men of 21 conspiracy from a
microchip and later learned that the beloved Mr. Kineally, who had
returned to Llanview several months earlier, was in actually, the head of
the Men of 21. He tried to kill the couple (who had reunited after Dylan
agreed to give Marty a divorce), but was ultimately defeated as the
police closed in for a final attack on Carlo.
Todd called together the citizens of Llanview to attend a gala aboard his
yacht, the Orion. Among the guests invited was Carlo. The hectic night
of events had Carlo attacking Andy and knocking her unconscious in her
apartment and stealing her gun; Bo being shot on the docks; the lights
aboard the Orion going out; and Antonio sneaking aboard the yacht to have
a heated confrontation with Carlo.
And then, Blair, struck by a wave of nauseau stumbled out to get a breath
of fresh air, leaned over the railing of the boat and saw ... the body of
Carlo Hesser, afloat in the water, with a bullet-hole in the center of
his forehead...
