From May 1994

The following is a transcript from a May 1994 episode of One Life To Live. For more information on story background, please read OLTL History 1994. I hope that this will promote someone to do Viki and Dorian's testimonies because those were the most important ones in this case. This transcript wasn't here for your viewing without Freddy who sent it to me.

Nora's cross-examination of Bo at the Dorian Lord murder trial

Nora: You don't mind me questioning your experience do you?
Bo: Not at all.
Nora: How many murder arrests have you made?
Bo: one
Nora: this one?
Bo: yes
Nora: did you find it unusual that the commissioner himself would be involved in such an arrest?
(Hank objects that Bo's performance is not on trial. Nora says, "Police performance is as much an issue as any criminal activity." And the judge allows it.)
Nora: did you find it odd that you made the arrest yourself?
Bo: I was just doing my job.
Nora: commendable. And with how many attempts at fleeing bail have you dealt with?
Bo: one
Nora: this one?
Bo: yes.
Nora: hmm, I see. So you've made one arrest for murder and you've experienced one alleged bail jumping. That's not a lot of experience is it? How can you be confident about your ability to evaluate criminal circumstances when haven't have very much experience at all? How long have you been police commissioner Mr. Buchanan?
Bo: 2 months.
Nora: and what was your background prier to that? Did you work your way up in the police ranks?
Bo: No I was appointed by the mayor.
Nora: Ah, a political appointee
Bo: but I did attend the police academy after the appointment on an informal basis.
Nora: oh, I see, you just what kind of hung around class?
Hank: objection!
Nora: withdrawn! Commissioner Buchanan how many unsolved homicides are currently on record for Lantano County?
Bo: 13
Nora: very good considering you only had this job for a short time.
Hank: objection!
Nora: I meant it as a complement, but if that offends the district attorney I most certainly withdraw it! Commissioner Buchanan of those 13 unsolved murders how many were committed in the last 2 years?
Bo: 4
Nora: that's right. You seem to have done your homework. Don't you find it odd commissioner Buchanan that with all these recent unsolved murders on your newly appointed desk slaughter that the first arrest you made for the charge of murder was for a death that occurred 18 years ago? A death that wasn't even counted among the 13 unsolved homicides because no one including the corner even considered it to be a homicide!
(Hank objects because Bo is not on trial but the judge says the police procedure always an issue and he overrules it.)
Nora: Commissioner Buchanan, were you just doing your duty when you arrested Dorian Lord? Or were you acting out some long-standing personal grudge that you have against the defendant? A grudge that is held by your entire family, A grudge that was heightened and exasperated by the fact that you were married to the defendant's daughter and she opposed that marriage!
(Hank yells "objection" and the judge tells them to approach the bench. Nora says that Bo did marry Dorian's daughter Cassie and Dorian did oppose the marriage and now Nora needs to raise the question of the witness’s past relationship with the defendant. The judge allows her to continue.)
Nora: Commissioner Buchanan isn't it true that you were once married to the daughter of the defendant?
Bo: (getting angry) Yes
Nora: And that the defendant opposed that marriage?
Bo: Yes
Nora: How did that make you feel?
Bo: How I felt about Dorian Lord then has nothing to do with why I arrested her for Victor Lords murder.
Nora: (Interrupting) Commissioner Buchanan how did you feel about Dorian when she opposed the marriage of her daughter?
Bo: (talking when Nora was talking) (yelling) That was based on evidence! Stop it! Nora just Stop it!
Nora: Your honor, will you please instruct this witness to answer the question!
Judge: The witness will answer the question. Commissioner?
Nora: Commissioner Buchanan, how did you feel about Dorian Lord when she opposed your marriage to her daughter? Did you like her? Did you dislike her? Did you strongly dislike her? Did you in fact hate her? Don't you still hate the defendant Dorian Lord!?
(Then she starts coughing and Dorian tells her to let Bo have it more but Nora says she has no further questions.)
