Scott & Amy's Disney Emporium
As you enter the Magic Kingdom you pass under the Walt Disney Railroad Train Station.
Now you are on Main Street U.S.A., you will instantly notice the old town look and the
first view of Cinderrella's Castle visitors will encounter as they enter the Magic Kingdom.
The Barber Shop
The Old Bakery " Where you can get fresh cookies the best at night before the night prade or fireworks"
The Icecream Parlour
City Hall
The Disney Emporium "Last but not least"
Here are some more of the things that makes MAIN STREET U.S.A. unique.
Besides the music on Main Street, there are several open windows in the side alleys
that have sound stories going on behind them. From the piano teacher's window you
can hear a lesson in progress and you can also hear the metronome. Every now and
then, the pupil will make a very obvious mistake and you hear a slap. At the dentist
office, you can hear the dentist drilling in someone's teeth. From the detective÷s
office, a barking dog and the guy on the phone can be heard. You can also hear a
shower start. Then, the man taking the shower starts yelling about how cold it is!
There are only three buildings on Main Street that are full scale. Welcome Center,
Train Station and City Hall. The others are gradually done to a smaller scale as you
work you way up Main Street to the Castle. This is done to make it look like the
Castle is bigger than it is as you go in to the park and as you leave dead tired the Train
Station looks closer than it really is. At first City Hall was to be the only "full size"
building but as construction began Mr. Disney noticed you could see the
Contemporary from Main Street and it did not fit in, so The Welcome Center also
became full size. The Train Station is also full size because they do not want you to see
the Castle from the outside. The Train Station acts as the curtain which rises as you
pass under it and enter Main Street
When you first enter Disney World's Magic Kingdom, walk under the train station
where the lockers are. Facing Cinderella Castle, look for a door on the right just
before you exit from under the station. Open this door and get a look at the Mural on
the wall. It was painted when I was there last time. The outline was projected on the wall
using an overhead and traced, and then it was colored in. This room is where the Train
engineers and Main Street cast meet and take breaks. They will ask you if you were
looking for something, so just tell them the restroom or something. I was told that 10-20
people a day walk into this room.
There are small sensors in the street along the parade route. They are about the size of
a nickel and look like chewing gum stuck to the road. There are usually two or three of
them within 12 to 18 inches of each other. These are used to monitor the parade floats
from the main computer center under the Magic Kingdom. Each float has an antenna
on it that the sensors recognize. An individual sits at a computer monitor and can see
exactly where each float is on the route. These are necessary to keep the floats and the
music (played during the parade from speakers not on the floats) coordinated. The
person monitoring the parade from the computer room can instruct each float driver to
speed up or slow down to keep the parade moving.
