The approach to Typhoon Lagoon is all palm trees and other tropical features. Along the route signs along the road proclaim the legend of Typhoon Lagoon:

A furious storm roared 'cross the sea;

Catching ships in it's path, helpless to flee;

Instead of certain and watery doom;

The winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

The principle behind the legend is that many years ago a typhoon hit a small resort which (along with an accompanying earthquake and volcano) resulted in leaving the resort in ruins. The resourceful locals however rebuilt their town and reopened it as the park we know today. As the rebuild was bound by financial and time constraints be prepared for trees toppled through buildings, a boat marooned on top of a mountain, upturned boats and debris strewn round the place.

The centerpiece of the 56-acre park without a doubt is one of the largest manmade mountains, Mount Mayday. Precariously balanced atop it is the Miss Tilly, a shrimping boat from Safen Sound, Florida. Be prepared for the 50-foot water flume which erupts every 30 minutes from the smokestack of Miss Tilly. The view some 85 foot above the park when you venture up Mount Mayday is spectacular and encompasses The Waves at Typhoon Lagoon a huge (larger than 2 football fields) surf pool which includes four and half foot waves from the wave machine.

Other features include two speed slides, three rafting adventures, a lazy river, a special kids area which replicates the rides in miniature and even an opportunity for the daring to swim with the sharks.
