-TITLE-
The year is 1962 and America for the most part, with the second world war far behind them,
enjoys a life of peace and prosperity. Unfortunately true security as it is often so fragile,
falls victim to a catastrophic crisis when it is discovered that the Soviets have been building
a long-range nuclear arsenal in Cuba.
Now with this situation at hand, well known in history as the "Cuban missile crisis," it is
discovered that in only "Thirteen Days" this deadly destructive force will be ready for
launch. For President John F. Kennedy (Bruce Greenwood), this means action must be taken and
taken swiftly. Unfortunately, with his military leaders keen on unleashing a destructive force
of their own, he is left battling with troops on both sides of this confrontation in an effort
to avoid a third world war.
A highly captivating, informative and entertaining film, an easily overlooked but highly
important piece of American history comes to life in exquisite detail. Following the story
closely in the footsteps of the Presidential Aide Kenny O'Donnell, played by Kevin Costner, the
only major crisis with the film, beyond the pointless switching from black and white to colour,
is Costner's accent, which although possibly accurate, only manages to be little more than a
distraction.
