Anna and the King
Breathtaking and beautiful, "Anna and the King" is a superb example of exquisite epic
film-making. A film to be cherished now and for years to come, a majestic seven acre set, one
of the largest ever built for a movie, transports us to 1927 Siam (now Thailand).
Based on the 1944 writings of Margaret Landon, telling the true life tale of a British
missionary Anna Leonowens, Jodie Foster takes the role of the leading lady while Hong Kong
superstar Chow Yun-Fat is King Mongkut. Anna, arriving in Siam as a teacher to instruct the
king's eldest son, not only a basic education but also in the ways of the ever growing modern
western world, finds herself teaching all his 58 children. However, the children are not the
only ones who get a lesson in the ways of a changing world as the ever bold Anna holds nothing
back in counseling the king in the modern attitudes toward slaves, women and governmental
headship.
Not to be missed, Anna and the King delivers movie making at its best, in a display of
beauty that makes it an instant classic.
Parental Note:Minor Violence
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version
