The Avengers 1964: Vol.2
One of the most popular shows of classic television, The Avengers starring Patrick Macnee as John Steed and Honor Blackman as Mrs. Cathy Gale, delivers plenty of action and adventure as they uphold the security of Britain against the various forms of ruthless villainy. Before the days of shooting the Avengers on film, crude tape recording was used as the low picture quality shows, and with additional use of single takes, obvious blunders by the actors are throughout the program. Whether these attest to the lack of production quality or simply nostalgic quality, the choice is that of the viewer.
Mandrake - Death is a dirty business, especially for those who make it their business. For one cold hearted business man and an easily influenced down-on-his-luck doctor, an ideal burial plot leads to a deadly plot with grave results.
The Secrets Broker - Blackmailing key people with access to top- secret information, an underground organization working out of a wine shop also carries a fine selection of bottled up secrets, many of which The Avengers take action to keep well corked up.
The Trojan Horse - On an innocent assignment to keep an eye on a foreign politician's race horse in the country, John Steed finds anything but horsing around going on behind closed stable doors. Jumping into action, John and Cathy Gale round up clues to a secret organization trying to buck the system.
Parental Note: Minor Violence
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original full frame version of the show. The disc mastering is good considering the aged source, but the video is interlaced and there are few extras.
