The Beach

A movie driven by sheer animal instinct and the brazen attitude of man, we are taken on a journey in search of paradise.

Traveling the world, not knowing where he fit in, Richard (Leonardo DiCaprio) finds himself in Thailand on the bustling streets of Bangkok.

Here, in a world gone mad, he befriends a young couple and a half-crazed man who tells him of an urban myth, The Beach... but not any beach, a perfect beach untouched by the ravages and commercialism of man. Little more than amused, Richard dismisses the story, but when the man produces a map to this promised land, there is little that can hold him back.

Joined by the young couple, they set off on an adventure to paradise, but once there, find there's even trouble in paradise, when those who know of its secret, will go to any means to keep it just that.

Softened by the beauty of paradise, the movie lifts off this paradisiac mask and delves deep beyond what the eyes want to believe, showing us the true nature of man's destructive force in its attempt to own what is only there to be shared.

Powerful and entertaining, The Beach delivers great writing, acting and story reminiscent of the classic Mosquito Coast.

Parental Note: Major Language, Violence, Adult Situations, Brief Nudity
