Beneath the Planet of the Apes
Continuing directly from the point the first Planet of the Apes left off, we follow Taylor (Charlton Heston) in the second film, "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" as more of mankind's self annihilation is revealed.
Following the time rip of the first ship, a second from Earth's past crash lands in the future, a sole survivor making his way into a strange new world, his only guide being Taylor's woman friend in search of her missing companion. Both stumbling upon the ruins of a once civilized man, they encounter a race of mutant men who have convinced themselves of the true peace only to be found in war. However, these who have washed their hands clean of the pain they cause prepare to confront the advancing armed and dangerous gorilla forces from ape city.
Very similar to the first film, the second continues almost seamlessly from where the first left off, making it an almost necessity to see the first film in order to understand many of the references made.
As similar as it is to the first film, the second falls short in its attempt to deal with too many social issues as well as deliver a somewhat crude display of special effects which at times work, but overall do little more than date the film.
Parental Note: Violence
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version of the movie. The mastering is excellent, but few are the extras.
