The Front Page

Ace newspaper reporter Hildy Johnson (Jack Lemmon) has fallen in love. Taking a new path in life, he plans to leave not only single life, but also the city of Chicago and the newspaper business.

Now comes the tug-a-war as Johnson's editor Walter Burns (Walter Matthau) fiance Peggy Grant (Susan Sarandon) promises a new life of love and a cushy advertising job for her uncle. Pulled in both directions, Johnson's great love for writing and a fabulous story unfolding before him proves a strong force to keep his feet anchored where they are, but oh how sweet love is.

A wonderful story set in the 1920s, it shows its theatrical origin by it's few and well-used sets, and is filled with wonderful actors including many familiar faces such as Carol Burnett. The only downside of this entertaining film is the constant onslaught of unceasing language which may make you wonder how this film was ever rated PG.

Parental Note: Language

The disc is single sided - single layered and contains the full frame pan & scan version of the movie. The mastering is excellent, but there are few extras.
