Mission to Mars
Growing ever closer to reality, Hollywood takes us on a magic rocket ride to the planet Mars.
Onboard Mars 1, we touchdown on the red planet's surface in the Cydonia Region, a location
famous for its mysterious face formation. Here the crew soon discovers to their misfortune,
they are not on this remote planet. Now with all communication to the planet lost, Mars 2 sets
forth for the planet in hopes of finding survivors.
Somewhat disappointing, the movie attempts to be believable while at the same time taking
creative licence in large obvious doses. Also, in a movie filled with spectacular special
effects that carry the sometimes weak story, the big finale is filled with far from believable
computer graphics that look more like something out of a video game than a big budget movie.
Beyond the obvious disappointments, the movie delivers middle-of- the-road sci-fi entertainment
with some decent performances by the likes of Gary Sinise, Tim Robbins, Jerry O'Connell, Don
Cheadle and Connie Nielson, but all working from not the best writing or script that a modern
day Mars mission could offer.
The disc is single sided - dual layered and contains the original widescreen version
of the movie. The mastering is excellent, as are the many extras.
